Human Factors Engineer

The Human Factors Team are looking for an aspiring Engineer to learn about and support the delivery of a variety of multi-discipline projects across various areas within AWE including radioactive, explosives and chemical plant.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing input into the design of process, plant and equipment
  • Supporting human factors assessments used to underpin safety justifications
  • Providing support to incident/near miss investigations
  • Helping to maintain and develop AWE’s Human Factors standards and guidance
  • Supporting the design and safety governance processes by independent review of designs and safety assessments

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have recently graduated or have completed a master’s degree in Human Factors or Ergonomics and are looking to develop their skills. Once you’ve started your career, we will assist your development through the continuation of training. Through the experience you gain at AWE we will help you progress towards Chartered status with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates would benefit from knowledge/experience of ANY of the following:

  • Working in a multi-discipline team
  • The application of human factors methodologies, such as: task analysis, Human Machine Interface (HMI) design, human error analysis, control room design, workload assessment, safety critical task assessment
  • Working in a formal project delivery & regulated environment
  • Awareness of health and safety legislation preferably in nuclear industry context
