Entry requirements

You will be recently qualified in Physics (all disciplines), Chemistry, Mathematics/Statistics, Materials Science, Computer Science, Seismology, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Environmental Sciences or Forensics & Analytical Sciences.  Before starting with the business you will need to provide evidence that you have attained a minimum of a 2:1 in your degree.  

What to expect on the programme?

Our scientist play a vital role in national nuclear security: whether you are working on unique research and development in some of the world’s leading facilities, or once in a generation projects.  The Evolve programme will allow you to apply and grow your current discipline knowledge in this unique environment and learn more about what you enjoy and where you want to take your career.  

AWE Graduates have previously benefited from experiences such as:

  • Access to Damson, our latest supercomputer and one of the most advanced in the world
  • Exciting opportunities for you to work on the Orion laser, one of the most powerful laser beams ever created and one of the biggest experimental facilities for high energy density physics in the UK
  • Materials physics
  • High strain-rate material deformation
  • High explosive detonation
  • Hydrodynamics
  • Radiation physics, theoretical physics, geophysics, nuclear physics, atomic physics, plasma physics
  • Quantum and analytical chemistry

The structured programme comprises of a series of placements to help accelerate your learning and advance the development of your critical skill sets.  You’ll get leadership, business and behavioural training and work on meaningful projects. You will also get the opportunity to start working towards professional registration.

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas, if applicable.
