Marc

Assurance Graduate

"My first day was exciting because I got to meet my intake and some of the key members of the Cambridge office."

Marc joined the Assurance graduate programme in Cambridge. Below he tells us about his role and experiences at EY so far.

How did you first hear about EY?

I first heard about EY in my second year at university when I began looking for a placement. EY stood out to me compared to others due to the opportunities and culture.

How did you know you wanted to be in this business area?

I did my research and found that Assurance is a great foundation for your career because of the exposure you get into different businesses, together with the opportunity to gain a prestigious accounting qualification.

What is your current role?

I am an Assurance Associate completing a graduate scheme.

As an Assurance Associate, you are a member an audit team with a mixture of senior members of the firm and colleagues at different levels of their career. We spend most of our time out on client sites performing work to gain comfort that the representations made in the client’s financial statements are true and fair.

What was your first day like?

My first day was exciting because I got to meet my intake and some of the key members of the Cambridge office. We did several fun ice-breakers to get to know more about each other and even went to a restaurant and bowling in the evening.

What surprised you most about EY?

Before joining the firm, I expected the work to be intensive straight away. However, I was surprised at how supportive and happy to help all my colleagues were. Everyone remembers what it was like to be new, therefore, everyone is always happy to help you out.

What do you like most about your day-to-day job?

I mostly enjoy working collaboratively with members of my team.
