At the National Physical Laboratory, our success relies on the diversity and talent of our people. We strive to nurture and respect individuals so that everyone feels valued and supported in their chosen field, a value that lies at the core of our organisation.
As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we became a Juno Supporter with the Institute of Physics in 2015 and were proud to achieve Juno Practitioner status in 2018. In the same year, we joined Stonewall as a Diversity Champion and became a member of the Business Disability Forum. Additionally, we are part of the Disability Confident scheme as a Level 1 committed employer.
To support our vision of being best in class in Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), we have established a Diversity and Inclusion Task Force. This group brings together individuals from across NPL to promote inclusive working practices and ensure diverse views are represented in our strategic objectives. Our ongoing development of the D&I Strategy (2022-2027) aims to enhance our initiatives further.
Our commitment to D&I is reflected in our supportive infrastructure. Overall executive sponsorship is key to ensuring strong and visible leadership throughout the organisation. Leaders present unified messages around diversity and inclusion, guided by the Diversity and Inclusion Manager and the D&I Task Force. However, creating a culture free of discrimination relies on the collective efforts of every employee at NPL.
Looking ahead, we are committed to addressing underrepresentation across various demographics. Our goals include encouraging openness about disabilities, expanding outreach to minority ethnic communities, and enhancing representation of non-binary and diverse gender identities. We aim to reflect the diverse communities of the UK and create a vibrant, inclusive NPL where everyone can thrive.
