Established in 1951 by John Murphy, J. Murphy & Sons Limited has grown into a leading global, multi-disciplined engineering and construction company with turnover of £780 million. We provide a wide range of construction services to infrastructure sectors including rail, water, power and natural resources.
Murphy directly employs more than 4,000 engineers, professional managers and skilled operatives across the world. We operate in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, USA, Australia and the Middle East.
We have a number of specialist capabilities such as pipelines, process, marine, tunneling and piling, and we invest heavily in our substantial holding of plant, equipment and facilities.
Since it was established in 1951, Murphy has been keeping the heart of a country beating with power and energy engineering expertise. Our capabilities range across traditional power, new nuclear and renewable energy areas.
Our engineers provide a cost-effective, one-stop shop in the management, design, installation and maintenance of solutions in transmission and distribution of energy, where we are highly experienced.
We have a highly successful and nationally established infrastructure for delivering complex power systems, where we engineer project solutions on a complete and bespoke basis. Our success has been built on repeat business from all the UK’s major transmission, distribution and rail operators.
We manage supply chains and take into account the entire lifecycle of a client’s assets to create a safe and sustainable environment, with a strong emphasis on health and safety.
Murphy's power team is one of the most respected names in power systems engineering, delivering a competitive service to a growing client base within the transmission, distribution, rail, and renewable energy sectors. With an emphasis on innovative design and implementation processes we have a proven track record of providing our client base with bespoke turnkey integrated solutions.
Our large multi-discipline workforce enables us to provide a total in-house service. This ensures flexibility, control, and, above all, quality and safety. Our reputation for delivering large and technically challenging projects, often in difficult conditions, on time and to exacting standards, is unrivalled.
Murphy is working to ensure future security of supply through enhancing and replacing existing power plants, and by looking to new and cleaner energy infrastructure, such as wind farms and other renewable electricity generation schemes.
We offer a number of summer work placements, which usually last between six and eight weeks. This is a paid placement and usually of interest to first or second year undergraduate students who do not want to spend a full year out working in industry or whose course doesn’t allow a longer and more structured placement.
