U-POL is a leading supplier of bodyfiller, coatings, aerosols, abrasives, polishes and consumables to the car repair market with a market reputation for high quality products and sales to over 100 countries. U-POL manufactures in the UK at its Wellingborough site and has additional warehouse facilities in the USA and Russia.
About the role
We're looking for a talented graduate to become an integral part of the quality control team, completing tests on products against specifications manufactured or purchased by U-POL and accurately record the data produced.
RAPTOR How to Tint and Spray
RAPTOR® is a tough durable truck bed liner and protective coating. Available in black and tintable versions, it’s suitable for any application where a tough, heavy duty coating is needed. RAPTOR® is flexible, waterproof and can be sprayed over a variety of substrates.
What you'll be doing
To ensure that the quality of all products supplied by the business conform to agreed specifications, by carrying out day to day testing of raw materials and finished products whilst working under strict timelines and at times increased pressure.
Achieve at least a competent level of understanding and ability to carry out all defined tests for all product groups;
Accurately record data on Excel spreadsheets and carry out transactions e.g. bookings and adjustments on the company’s business system.
Perform adjustments for correction of failed batches.
Basic understanding and operation of the company Average Weight System and the relevant regulations.
Carry out weekly and monthly tasks allocated by the Quality Laboratory Manager to an excellent standard and meeting deadlines set. E.g. weekly consumables check, spot checks and line checks
Maintain an excellent standard of housekeeping within all areas of the department.
Have a basic understanding of U-POL’s product range and of Raw Materials and how they contribute to formulations.
Liaise with relevant departments over any quality issues and raise all quality incidents in a professional manner through the internal and external complaints process. Support the business where possible in assisting to develop preventative measures.
To generate certificates of Conformance and Analysis for customers and government agencies as required in a timely manner.
Challenge personal performance to develop skills which will support the team to deliver consistent results.
Be willing to support the business and quality department with other duties that are vital to the success of the business e.g. Health and Safety representative or continual improvement
To champion quality, health and safety improvements within the department. Whilst also supporting health and safety initiatives within the wider business.
To work within the departmental rota as a functioning part of the Quality Team providing relevant cover.
What we're looking for
Qualified in relevant subjects to degree level(Chemistry or equivalent) and any evidence of industry experience either gained through a summer internship or industrial placement will be beneficial.
You must be numerate, analytical and IT literate.
A good team player, who can demonstrate a continual improvement mindset and works proactively with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Have outstanding attention to detail, be quality focused and always strive for perfection.
