Michael graduated with a MSc. in Finance from Bournemouth University in 2019. At the beginning of this year, he was set to start training at our Academy in London. However, the country entered lockdown, so the training was converted online.
After the training, we secured Michael a role at a global Japanese financial services organisation, which he started remotely. We caught up with Michael to learn about his role in Anti-Financial Crime and hear what it’s like to start your career working from home.
“I was approached by Olivia from Wiley Edge's talent team who found my CV online and thought I’d be a good match. I went through the interview process which involved a telephone interview, a test and a video interview. I was then told I was successful and that Wiley Edge would start sending me to interviews at clients which suited my skills.
The interview prep was really useful, especially the mock interviews. In fact, my boss still tells me how impressed he was! I had a few interviews elsewhere with Wiley Edge, but when I went for this job, I knew it was the one I wanted.
When I found out I was offered the role, I was ecstatic. I genuinely believe that if it wasn’t for Wiley Edge, like many recent graduates, I’d still be trying to start my career after university.
From the beginning, Wiley Edge have been great and I've recommended them to my friends.”
“Our training was meant to be in the London office, but once we went into lockdown, it was moved online.
For the first week, the group was made up of about fifteen of us. The training was mixed, we went through slides on finance and then we learnt about office politics and professional skills.
We then split up into two groups for the second week and my group focused on financial crime. Even though training was online, I met people who were also going to MUFG, so I had the opportunity to get to know them too.
The training was Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We learnt in different ways, which helped to mix things up, like slide decks, group discussions on Zoom, and presentations - the combination of those worked well.”
