Covering six square kilometres, the site in West Cumbria is home to more than 200 nuclear facilities. A team of 11,000 people work here alongside our supply chain partners, to tackle a diverse portfolio of decommissioning, reprocessing, spent fuel management, nuclear waste management and nuclear material management.

We have opportunities for ambitious, curious, open-minded Electrical/Electronic Engineering students to join us in various professions on a year-long industrial placement.

You’ll need to be on track or expected to achieve at least a 2:1 in your degree discipline and ideally will be within your penultimate year of study.

Our Industrial Placement

Our 12-month industrial placement programme is ideal for students looking to complete a placement during their time at university. The placement is designed to provide you with a flavour of what it is like to work at Sellafield Ltd and although you are only with us for a year, we can assure you that you will still feel you have made a difference.

As part of the Industrial Placement programme you will get the chance to take part in activities that will allow you develop your skills in line with our Graduate Programme and also allow you to obtain valuable employability skills and experience.

Our Electrical Engineering Placements

As part of our 12-month engineering industrial placement programme you could work in one of the following professions:

  • Construction - (Sellafield, Cumbria).
  • Commissioning - (Sellafield, Cumbria).
  • Design Engineering - (Risley, Warrington).
  • Plant Engineering - (Sellafield, Cumbria).

You will be asked during your application form which profession you would prefer to work within, please ensure you visit our graduate programme areas page for more information on each profession.

Our Placement Rewards

  • Annual salary: £16,371 - £17,455
  • 25.5 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.

Recruitment Timeline

  • Application closing date: Ongoing (Apply at your earliest opportunity, applications may close for certain programmes if we experience high numbers)
  • Telephone Interviews: November 2019.
  • Face-to-face Interviews: Throughout December 2019 & January 2020.
