Job Description

The Luton site is home to the Electronic Warfare (EW) and Major Air Programmes (MAP) lines of business. Our advanced technology is defining the next generation of products for both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms, including airborne radars and sensors, protection and countermeasure systems and integrated mission systems:

Cutting-Edge: You could be developing state-of-the-art airborne electronic systems for the most advanced fighter aircraft ever to be made or be involved in creating the next generation of Leonardo products.
Innovative: You will be involved with novel product development and emerging technologies that have been supported by Leonardo's £200m annual investment in research and development.
Challenging: You will push the boundaries of innovation, technology, and the ingenuity of our engineering community to bring about a step change in performance and capability of our airborne electronic systems.
Graduate Software Engineers are needed to join our growing software community at Luton to work alongside some of the most talented engineers in the UK.

You will be exposed to the latest tools, technologies and processes with the opportunity to influence the future path of software development within Leonardo. This could be developing real-time embedded software on a complex aircraft protection system, sophisticated analysis and support tools running in a PC desktop environment or contributing ideas to innovate the next generation of products.

Key Responsibility Areas

Working alongside other developers in an environment that is both challenging and rewarding your responsibilities will include:

  • Growing and applying your knowledge of software engineering as part of an Integrated Project Team.
  • Developing practical skills and design techniques for land, sea or aerospace applications.
  • Managing your personal development towards attaining professional standards and registration within a relevant body.
  • Supporting early careers activities - our graduates have the opportunity to work as STEM ambassadors in schools, colleges and universities.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • All of our roles require (a) a minimum of an upper Second class Bachelors/Integrated Masters degree, or (b) a higher degree, such as a MSc or PhD. In all cases the subject should be engineering, mathematics, physics or another relevant discipline.
  • Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security

In addition you will:

  • Need to have an understanding of software engineering principles with knowledge of programming in one or more software languages
  • Possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills and have the confidence and ability to challenge and contribute.
  • Have an enthusiasm and passion for software development.
