Leonardo’s Graduate Development Programme offers you a permanent position to develop your knowledge and skills in our innovative and practical environment. In addition to working with our highly skilled engineers and business professionals, you will complete a 2 year formal training programme to develop the skills you require to be a leading technical or business professional of the future.

On joining the Leonardo graduate programme, you will be provided with a wealth of development opportunities in both virtual and applied working environments. On our programme you will engage with challenging and exciting project work, and deliver innovative business or technical solutions as part of a team of subject matter experts. Throughout the programme you will receive coaching and support from your team to achieve your objectives as well as your personal development goals. 

You will gain a wide array of experience in your day to day role, however as part of the programme you will also complete a number of development modules and activities over a two year period. These modules and activities are designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to realise your full potential. How this role fits in

We are looking for Graduate Test Software Engineers to be involved in the development of software solutions for complex and innovative systems.

What you will do

You will work as part of the exciting development team. Areas of work include the design and implementation of complex software solutions used in the automated or semi-automated testing of complete weapons systems, radars, guided weapons and sub-units. Other key areas of involvement of the Graduate Software Engineer are Software Design Lifecycle (from requirements capture through to software release) but primarily developing software and assisting in the integration and testing of this software with the target system hardware.

Reporting into the Lead or Principal Software Engineer you will actively participate in the Graduate Scheme over 2 years. You will be Involved in all stages of the software design lifecycle: - requirements capture, design, code, test, acceptance, release and support. You will learn to follow software Processes and Procedures as defined in the Company Standard Process Framework for software whilst creating high quality and robust code.

You will learn to fully document and record your work products whilst keeping them under configuration management and providing plans and reports on progress to your supervisor. You will liaise with people from other disciplines (e.g. electronics, quality assurance, etc.) and assist systems and hardware engineers integrate the software with the hardware.

What we are looking for

Mandatory

Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business.

Qualifications

All of our roles require (a) a minimum of an upper Second class Bachelors/Integrated Masters degree, or (b) a higher degree, such as a MSc or PhD.  In all cases the subject should be engineering, mathematics, physics or another relevant discipline.

A Graduate who has a preference to develop software that predominately interface with hardware would be desirable.
