Leonardo’s Graduate Development Programme offers you a permanent position to develop your knowledge and skills in our innovative and practical environment. In addition to working with our highly skilled engineers and business professionals, you will complete a 2 year formal training programme to develop the skills you require to be a leading technical or business professional of the future.

Our 2 year Graduate Programme

On joining the Leonardo graduate programme, you will be provided with a wealth of development opportunities in both virtual and applied working environments. On our programme you will engage with challenging and exciting project work, and deliver innovative business or technical solutions as part of a team of subject matter experts. Throughout the programme you will receive coaching and support from your team to achieve your objectives as well as your personal development goals.

You will gain a wide array of experience in your day to day role, however as part of the programme you will also complete a number of development modules and activities over a two year period. These modules and activities are designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to realise your full potential. Leonardo is committed to developing our graduates into leading technical or business professionals, and as such we will also support you through your preferred route for chartership.

How this role fits in

As a Procurement Graduate you will work closely with colleagues in other departments (such as Engineering and Manufacturing), both to learn the key role the Procurement department plays in an Integrated Project Team (IPT) based business model and to develop the collaboration skills necessary to influence the relationship with our suppliers.

What you will do

Role description

Through a series of placements within the Procurement & Commercial function you will have an opportunity to develop a skillset which will allow you to pursue a career as a Procurement professional. By developing strong relationships with the supplier base, the internal customer base and the internal supply chain you will be able to add value to individual project teams and the wider business.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Ability to lead & co-ordinate the supplier selection process in order to ensure the supply solution provides quality, reliability, strategic fit & value for money
  • Effectively manage key supplier sub contracts throughout the contract life cycle including monitoring of performance, risk, change, compliance with requirements & cost
  • Support the business Procurement Team by contributing to the development of processes, practices and systems which enhance their capability to deliver a high performing supply chain and effectively manage supplier performance.
  • Analysis of data to present and challenge existing processes and offer innovative alternatives that benefit the wider business.
  • Seeking & harnessing innovative solutions from existing and future supply chain partners in order to meet the business needs which includes monitoring key players, newcomers, economic evolution & market trends.
  • Obtain a good understanding of the use of SAP Systems & key procurement tools across the Procurement life cycle, including planning, sourcing, cost analysis, negotiation and the creation of all types of purchase orders
  • Learn, develop and utilise a negotiation skillset to apply in supplier negotiations in order to maximise value to all parties
  • Demonstrate over time, an awareness of our core business management approach and procurement process including the ability to produce
  • Procurement Plans and Category Strategies and identify areas of risks and opportunities and be an effective member of process improvement projects.
  • Ability to develop agreements, terms & conditions and provide evidence to ensure compliance with both internal and customer governance.
  • Develop networks across the UK sites through the graduate programme and able to arrive motivated and prepared for short modules which align personal development against the core strategies within Leonardo.

What we are looking for

Mandatory

Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business.

Qualifications

All of our roles require (a) a minimum of an upper Second class Bachelors/Integrated Masters degree, or (b) a higher degree, such as a MSc or PhD.  A degree in a business subject or STEM will be considered.

Highly desirable

A knowledge of, or an ability to learn and understand, Contract Terms & Conditions
The ability to influence and manage internal and external stakeholders
Proficient level of MS Office based IT skills
