Leonardo’s Graduate Development Programme offers you a permanent position to develop your knowledge and skills in our innovative and practical environment. In addition to working with our highly skilled engineers and business professionals, you will complete a 2 year formal training programme to develop the skills you require to be a leading technical or business professional of the future.

Our 2 year Graduate Programme

On joining the Leonardo graduate programme, you will be provided with a wealth of development opportunities in both virtual and applied working environments. On our programme you will engage with challenging and exciting project work, and deliver innovative business or technical solutions as part of a team of subject matter experts. Throughout the programme you will receive coaching and support from your team to achieve your objectives as well as your personal development goals. 

You will gain a wide array of experience in your day to day role, however as part of the programme you will also complete a number of development modules and activities over a two year period. These modules and activities are designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to realise your full potential.

What you will do

How this role fits in

Join the Quality Assurance team on the Southampton site.  Through the Graduate programme, develop the skills to provide effective Assurance and Quality Engineering support throughout all phases of the Product Lifecycle, from initial concept through to Design, Development, manufacture (Internal and External) including Assembly Integration and Test.

Working with the rest of the Quality team and other teams to ensure we deliver high quality products and services to our customers.

This involves working with all functions on site and is a combination of:

  • Assurance tasks (reviewing processes are correct and are being followed), and
  • Identifying areas for improvement and then working with others to implement these improvements.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Ensure all customer requirements are satisfied by means of effective advanced quality planning and pro-active assurance engagement,
  • Ensure product and process verification and validation exercises are completed,
  • Influence design quality, in software and/or hardware, by applying pro-active design assurance activities,
  • Management of all project non-conformances to a resolution,·
  • Manage internal and customer First Article Verification reviews along with all formal customer communications,
  • Manage product release and build standard reconciliation,        
  • Ensure Project improvement opportunities are managed to a conclusion,·            
  • Manage QA aspects of Product / System Qualification Programmes, including Software test and verification activities,
  • Undertake and manage to a conclusion product and project internal audits,

What we are looking for


Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business.


All of our roles require (a) a minimum of an upper Second class Bachelors/Integrated Masters degree, or (b) a higher degree, such as a MSc or PhD. In all cases the subject should be engineering, mathematics, physics or another relevant STEM discipline.

Highly Desirable 

  • Familiar with engineering project disciplines within design/development/manufacturing industry.
  • An appreciation of and an ability to articulate the benefits of maintaining quality through the development cycle
  • Awareness of Quality Tools and Techniques i.e. Lean, 5S, Root Cause Analysis, DMAIC.
  • Competent using Microsoft Office tools to analyse data and prepare presentations.
  • A team player and be able to work with and influence others,
  • Must be able to interact at all levels within the business, supplier  and customer base,
  • Must be accurate and methodical and able to support the business needs,
  • Must be keen to develop existing processes and challenge the norm.
