The 6 month – 1 year Industrial Placement Programme

We have created a programme across our UK site that not only increases your technical skills but gives you the opportunity to work on meaningful real life projects alongside experienced engineers and graduates across our business. You will receive coaching and support to achieve your personal goals and work in multidisciplinary teams to gain as much experience across the product lifecycle from your time in industry as possible.

Our ultimate aim is to see you through your undergraduate years and hopefully offer you a place on our 2 year Graduate Development programme at an appropriate time. At Leonardo, we have some of the Industry’s most sophisticated technology at our fingertips, and we rely on having the very best employees to maintain our competitive edge. You will be working for a company at the cutting edge of technology, as well as enhancing your skills and business acumen, opening up your horizons to the diverse and dynamic ways in which your degree can be used.

Job Description

A world leader in electronic systems, our advanced technology is defining the next generation of products for both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms, including airborne radars and sensors, protection and countermeasure systems and integrated mission systems.

  • Cutting-Edge: You could be developing state-of-the-art airborne electronic systems for the most advanced fighter aircraft ever to be made or be involved in creating the next generation of Leonardo products.

Key Responsibility Areas

During your placement you will be part of a growing software community and work alongside some of the most talented engineers in the UK. You will be exposed to the latest tools, technologies and processes with the opportunity to influence the future path of software development within Leonardo. This could be developing real-time embedded software on a complex aircraft protection system, sophisticated analysis and support tools running in a PC desktop environment or contributing ideas to innovate the next generation of products.

Working alongside other developers in an environment that is both challenging and rewarding, your responsibilities will include:

  • Growing and applying your knowledge of software engineering as part of an Integrated Project Team with some guidance and support.
  • Developing practical skills and design techniques for land, sea or aerospace applications.
  • Exploring new experiences and opportunities to learn within the engineering environment.
  • Supporting early careers activities - our Industrial Placements students have the opportunity to work as STEM ambassadors in schools, colleges and universities.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

You must be working towards an honours degree in a relevant discipline, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or Electronic Engineering.

In addition you will:
