Leonardo’s Industrial Placement Programme offers you a paid placement to develop your knowledge and skills in our innovative and practical environment.  In addition to working with our highly skilled engineers and business professionals, successful completion of an Industrial Placement can often lead to an offer for a permanent graduate position and securing your place on our industry leading Graduate Development Programme.  

The 6 month – 1 year Industrial Placement Programme

Our Industrial Placement Programme is designed to offer you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills you require to become an engineering or business professional of the future. On our programme you will engage with challenging and exciting project work, and deliver innovative business or technical solutions as part of a team of subject matter experts. Throughout the programme you will receive coaching and support from your team to achieve your objectives as well as your personal development goals. You will gain a wide array of experience on your placement that you can apply to your academic studies and future career.

How this role fits in

The CS3 line of business operates across all of the main UK sites, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required, whether that’s helicopters supporting the Covid-19 relief effort or fast jets protecting UK air space, or training to the British Army. By joining our team, you could help us to continue to make a difference.

What you will do

As a systems industrial placement student within CS3 Land Logistics and Training Services, you will be part of a team supporting our current business, and creating new opportunities for our customers in the UK and around the world. You will have the chance to work directly with these customers and our end users, getting the opportunity to understand some of their challenges first-hand. Your role might include support to current training contracts, for the British Army and Royal Air Force through to research and solution design of new training and support contracts. You might also look at how technology can be applied to provide new types of training service.

The role is likely to include travel, both within the UK and possibly also abroad, to provide in-person support to our customers.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Using technical expertise to solve problems, generate ideas and be pro-active within the team.
  • Developing and applying your academic knowledge to undertake various activities across the engineering lifecycle, delivering to agreed performance targets, including cost and schedule.
  • Developing practical skills in engineering design and development for complex solutions, understanding key processes and technologies.
  • Working closely with engineers across multiple disciplines to solve problems.
  • Completing tasks to a high standard and in accordance with appropriate processes and procedures.
  • Taking an active role in engineering process improvement.

What we are looking for

Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business.

Qualifications

All of our Industrial Placement roles require a minimum of a predicted 2:1 grade in a relevant degree discipline.  For technical roles please note that our preferred degree disciplines include Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or other STEM subject degrees.

Highly desirable

  • Self-motivated with an aptitude for problem solving and an ability to drive difficult issues to conclusion
  • Able to work with minimum direction or supervision on complex tasks
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and the ability to interact with subject matter experts regarding a range of technical and operational topics.
  • Confidence and ability to challenge and respond to technical or process issues.
