A day in the life - Elizabeth Parkes

What does it mean to be a Lendlease graduate?

Our Day in the Life series finds out first-hand. This week, we caught up with: Elizabeth Parkes, Assistant Design Manager at International Quarter London.

I'm currently responsible for…

Managing and co-ordinating the fitout design on Plot S9 of the project. I work with the design team and project team to ensure information is accurate, of good quality, co-ordinated and released in time for procurement of materials and project timescales.

My most memorable work moment was…

Working as part of a project on a Grade II*-listed building at the University of Leicester. The team won the Lendlease Innovation Award, which was a great achievement. The project was so technically challenging and the building remained fully operational throughout the project.

I've learnt that the industry…

Is always changing. When working in construction, you have to be adaptable to change as one minute you may be working on a particular element of a project with one team, and the next minute on another area, or even pulled on to another project due to demand. Before working at Lendlease I hadn’t realised how many people and stages there are to get to site and get a building out of the ground!

After work…

I try to keep fit by doing activities such as running, yoga and dance – I’m glad Lendlease promotes a healthy work life balance and active lifestyle. Living in London there’s always something to do, my background is architecture so there’s plenty of interesting buildings, galleries and museums to visit and a great food and drink scene to enjoy with friends.

Lendlease is a place for me because…

There’s such a variety of projects and roles to be involved in. I work with a diverse range of people who are knowledgeable and supportive. We work with some of the best design teams and subcontractors in the business and on high profile projects, which I feel lucky to be a part of. There’s scope to progress my career and I learn something new every day.
