MSc Patient Centred Outcomes Research

The Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) vision is: To provide evidence that improves lives through patient-focused outcomes. We achieve this by developing measurement strategies that integrate the patient perspective into drug development.

The patient viewpoint is increasingly important in drug approval and reimbursement decisions as health authorities, payers, patients, caregivers and healthcare providers seek additional evidence of treatment benefit.

This placement will give you the opportunity to be a part of a team that works on collection of clinical outcomes assessments (COAs) such as patient reported outcome (PRO), clinician-reported outcomes (ClinRO), observer-reported outcome (ObsRO), and performance outcome (PerfO) measures, to capture the patient experience while to better understand patients’ perspective of treatment and disease burden.

MSc/PhD Advanced Analytics

In Personalised Healthcare, we leverage real world healthcare data and appropriate analytical techniques to identify the right drug for the right patient at the right time, in order to maximise the value of our products for patients, and for the business.

In Biostatistics, as strategic partners in drug development, we apply our drug development and statistical expertise to the design of clinical development plans, clinical studies, and non-clinical experiments.

As an intern, you will have access to both groups, gaining exposure to individuals with expertise across the development pipeline and in both real world and clinical trial data. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working on a specific pharmaceutical projects.

PhD Data Science & Analytics

In the biopharmaceutical industry, each data point is part of a patient's story and their contribution to developing better medicines and understanding disease. It is our responsibility to maximise the use of this data for answering new questions and enabling larger-scale analyses for generating new insights.

Data Science placement students will work as part of a team to deliver data and insights about our medicines and to provide solutions that aid the collection, databasing and analysis of clinical trial data for medicines in Roche’s diverse pipeline.

During this programme you will work under the supervision of experienced biostatisticians on theoretical or applied problems with direct relevance to Roche’s ongoing clinical drug-development research in areas such as oncology, immunology, infectious disease, ophthalmology, and neuroscience.

Industrial Placements (for Bachelors & Integrated Master students)

Data Science

Data Science placement students will work as part of a team to deliver data and insights about our medicines and to provide solutions that aid the collection, databasing and analysis of clinical trial data for medicines in Roche’s diverse pipeline.

Full training in systems, software and programming will be provided for all roles and you will have frequent access to senior staff that provide coaching and oversight on a day-to-day basis.

Informatics & IT

As a part of this placement, you will be supporting and enabling our colleagues across the organisation with technology challenges. You could be working in one of the three areas:

  • Onsite User Services & Adoption Services
    • You could be part of a team where you contribute to the introduction of new technology and services to our workplace and work on the marketing and change management campaigns to ensure high adoption of new services.
  • Business Analyst
    • You could be working on scoping, planning and supporting the successful implementation of technology solutions by providing business analysis, best practice research, detailed requirements and user stories definition and user acceptance facilitation.
  • Data Science
    • As a part of this team you will work cross-functionally to generate insights from data, enabling us to optimise business performance.
Graphic Design

The Graphic Design team support the deliver of this through creative design and graphic artwork across a range of media types and platforms. Ensuring the highest standard of creativity and quality are delivered in a cost-effective and timely manner, we support various stakeholders across Roche UK to ensure maximum visual impact for our products and our organisation (internally and externally).

The Graphic Design Industrial Placement opportunity will give a graphics or design related student the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and skill set in an in house environment to deliver exciting campaigns. They will work with other in house designers or independently on live projects that add real value to Roche.

Global Procurement

Global Procurement partners with the Roche business to provide strategic insight that helps guide buying decisions.

Through understanding stakeholder needs, we deliver innovative solutions that maximise the value of third-party spend. This intern opportunity will be specifically based in Research & Development Procurement, where we focus on how we can leverage our external suppliers to accelerate science for the benefit of our patients.

This placement introduces you to all aspects of strategic project management in our R&D Procurement organisation, where you will gain exposure to strategic project delivery, which will include planning, implementation and ensuring successful delivery of our goals. This is an excellent opportunity for Business Management or Life Sciences-related undergraduate students seeking a 13 month placement to supplement their degree.

Early Phase Clinical Operations

Roche Pharma Research & Early Development (pRED) translates world-class science into medical innovation through a diversity of technologies and talent located across seven research sites worldwide. We deliver on individual patient needs through a deep understanding of disease biology and the implementation of Personalised Healthcare strategies​.

As a part of this placement, you could be working in one of the three areas:

Clinical Program Execution where you'll work closely with Clinical Science to develop study protocols, set up and lead clinical studies in order to deliver high quality patient data to support the transition of investigational medicinal products into the late phase of the Roche organisation.

Biosample Operations where you'll work on developing and executing the biosampling strategy for our investigational medicinal products. Whilst putting patients at the forefront of everything we do, we leverage partnerships with, but not limited to, Science and external laboratories to transform quality biosamples into valuable data.

Business Operations Management is an integrated group of experts from resource management and analytics, to partnership management, knowledge management and learning, process and initiatives management, and quality performance excellence. As a part of the BOM team you'll work to supports Clinical Operations in the delivery of our clinical trial and clinical programs.

Country Clinical Operations

Country Clinical Operations UK is made up of over 150 people, primarily project managers and clinical trial monitors, who run over 120 phase I - IV trials across a wide number of indications. Partnering with NHS hospitals and institutions up and down the country, we get new innovative medicines to patients in accordance to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and local regulations, ensuring patient safety and data collected from our patients is of a high quality.

As an Industrial Placement student in Country Clinical Operations, you will play a key role in supporting with key tasks across a broad range of topics, ultimately helping accelerate drug development and successful execution of clinical trials in the UK. Industrial Placement students sit within our Business Support Group, who are responsible for Vendoring, Resources and Raw Materials, Contract Management, as well as clinical study start-up and portfolio analysis.

Working in a Clinical Operations Department, you will also have the chance to work with study teams on a needs basis, to provide additional support for key milestones - providing the opportunity to visit some of our clinical trial sites - helping grow your knowledge of drug development in the UK.

Global Clinical Operations

Clinical Operations run phase I - IV trials across a wide number of indications. We get new innovative medicines to patients in accordance with global Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards, ensuring patient safety and that data collected from our patients is of a high quality. We work to implement Smarter trials that accelerate development timelines so that Roche can help patients faster.

As a part of this placement you'll work closely with Global Study Managers, who are responsible for effective and efficient leadership and delivery of all operational components across study start-up, conduct and close-out in accordance with the appropriate quality standards including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and applicable regulations.
