Safety Engineering Graduate Programme

About the role

Our Graduate Safety Engineers work under the supervision of our Senior Project Engineers. Throughout the programme, you will develop your skills through working on project proposals, bidding, and attending team workshops at clients’ offices nationally and internationally. You'll also work towards a TUV (Technical Inspection Association) Functional Safety Engineer certification.

Graduates will be trained in all technical areas, including Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Studies, Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs), and more. By the end of the programme, you will have varied experience ranging from project management to commercial understanding, and you'll understand the main international standards and requirements governing Functional Safety within the Oil & Gas and Process industries.

There will also be various opportunities to travel to countries with a high demand in the oil and gas industry - these are mainly in the Middle East and Americas.

About you

  • Ideally you will have studied Electrical & Electronic, Chemical/Process or Mechanical Engineering, and achieved a 2:1 or above. We are, however, open to receiving applications from most STEM disciplines.
  • You'll be able to work independently and within a team.
  • You'll have exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with an eye for detail.
  • You'll be willing to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Due to travel requirements, and thus visa applications, you must hold a valid British Passport. We are unable to sponsor international applicants at this stage.
  • Previous consulting experience and understanding of safety standards is desirable but not necessary.

Professional Development

Continual Professional Development (CPD) is key to the ethos within FSES. As a member of our team, you will get the opportunity to work with experienced personnel, learning on the job on worldwide projects as part of your ongoing development. Through working closely with our senior consultants you will take on responsibilities and challenges allowing for a variety of experiences.

In addition to hands-on experiences and internal training sessions, FSES will also provide additional external training through professional associations such as the IChemE and IET.

The Graduate Development Programme at FSES is developed and aligned with the requirements of the various professional associations (IChemE, IET, SarS, etc) in order to develop our Graduate Consulting Engineers into Chartered Engineers.
