Teodor Sofroniev

"Everyone is very welcoming and nice. I have been here for a month and already I feel like a member of the team whose opinion is valued and respected."

Name: Teodor Sofroniev

Discipline: Fire

Degree: University of Edinburgh, Structural and Fire Safety Engineering

What attracted you to Cundall?

It didn’t take long for me to see that Cundall is exactly what I was looking for. Here you can be exposed to a whole array of different disciplines and specialisms instead of only being around your own. Also, Cundall is the perfect size to provide good opportunity to grow – not too big where your personal contribution won’t be noticed and it’s hard to make an impression, and not too small so there are plenty of people with experience and there is plenty of opportunity to work on big projects with different teams.

What are your first impressions?

Everyone is very welcoming and nice. I have been here for a month and already I feel like a member of the team whose opinion is valued and respected.

What have you been doing as part of your first few months at Cundall?

As part of the fire engineering team I’ve had the opportunity to do more than the trivial problems usually given to graduates. For example, I’ve been contacting and meeting with architects to discuss the progress of some projects. Also, I’ve enjoyed attending a few seminars and training events.

Are you enjoying working life (and how does it compare to your student days)?

If you are the kind of person who is organised and can start the day early, the working life will seem so much better. Unlike university, after you finish your day’s work, you don’t need to worry about it anymore. Now is the time to think about hobbies, especially since now you have the budget for them.

What are you most looking forward to over the next few months?

The office socials so far have raised the bar pretty high so I’d like to see if they can keep it up.

Do you have any helpful hints for someone who might be thinking of applying?

Don’t be scared and just go for it without overthinking. I was very nervous before my assessment centre but when I got there I genuinely had more fun than I would have ever expected from what is basically a long interview.
