How did you first come across Sparta Global?

I was studying for a degree in Computer Forensics at Middlesex University when I came across Sparta Global at the Gradstock fair. The stand caught my eye and Gaia [Caruso, Talent & Partnerships Consultant, Sparta Global] greeted me right away. She told me about Sparta Global, the Academy and the graduate schemes on offer – explaining in detail the differences between the Business and IT Technical courses.

I asked Gaia about the clients Sparta Global works with and quickly gave her my name and contact details so we could move forward. I took part in a short phone interview the very next day!

What excited you about a career in tech?

Technology has - and will always - fascinate me. There is no limit to the evolution of technology and knowing your knowledge will always be growing and changing in the industry makes me to want to know more. I also wanted to give back to the amazing females who have inspired me so far and have been great tech role models to the younger generation – particularly as the tech industry has a low ratio of women to men. Hopefully one day I can be one of these successful females and give other girls the confidence and drive to do this too!

How did Sparta Global’s presence at the Gradstock Fair help you learn more about a career in tech?

Sparta provided me with all the material I needed to consider a career in tech, giving me posters and leaflets that encouraged me to further research the company and understand the career choices they could offer me.

Gaia was a great help - she was very professional and instantly made me feel at ease with all that Sparta Global had to offer. It was also nice to see a strong female at the forefront of a tech company and I knew I wanted to replicate the way Gaia was presenting herself in my future tech career.

How was your experience going through the recruitment process at Sparta Global?

The recruitment process was well organised and simple for new recruits, the staff were kind and helpful and the Sparta assessment day was unlike any other. I felt comfortable throughout and really enjoyed it! Rather than being in an office with a face-to-face interview, we took part in skillful games and question/answer sessions that allowed me to interact with everyone. Whilst I understood I was being assessed, everyone was less nervous and it allowed us to shine and show our personalities.

When you join the Sparta Academy this month, what are you looking forward to most?

I am thrilled to be joining the Business graduate scheme at the Academy. Sparta Global offers training at both ends of the spectrum of tech so its versatile schemes are tailored to fit all kinds of students. After studying Computer Forensics at University, I’m fully equipped on the forensic side. I feel grateful to be in a position to learn about the business side of tech, branching out and learning something new is a great feeling.

I can’t wait to meet new people at Sparta – graduates, trainers and clients! I’m looking forward to showing off the skills I have learnt at uni and having the opportunity to work with and meet influential people, with the potential to influence or improve the way their business operates.

What advice would you give to current university students who are looking for their first role in tech?

Be confident and take a leap of faith. I’m a strong believer in the idea that if you don’t ask, you don’t get! Start to network and build yourself a platform on social media and explore the great opportunities that are out there. There are lots to choose from, so it’s about finding the opportunity that’s best suited to you.
