Network Management Engineer

Telecommunications, Software, Systems.

The role

Nokia, the global telecommunications supplier, is looking for a talented and motivated graduate to join its network management support group in a full-time capacity. Based in Bristol, the Network Management team deals daily with the top carriers in the UK and across the globe, to support and maintain its range of network management products and solutions.

The role is to provide customers with a high level of detailed technical support for a range of Linux based Network Management Applications. This will involve liaising with customer technical representatives to investigate and resolve technical problems along with tracking problems and liaising closely with 3rd line support engineers and R&D to bring issues to a satisfactory conclusion.

Many of the activities are performed in an extensive ‘lab’ environment to replicate and debug faults from live networks, but engineers routinely work remotely on the live networks of global carriers, mobile operators, enterprise and Internet Service Providers, in situations where thousands of end-customers’ service may be at risk. The team ethos is particularly strong amongst the group; an attitude which a graduate would need to share.

We create the technology to connect the world
From the enabling infrastructure for 5G and the Internet of Things, we are shaping the future of technology to transform the human experience.

The wide range of skills and products means that the learning curve is steep, and you will be expected to take charge of your own learning to build the necessary skills to work independently as a valued member of the team.

The role is primarily supporting live deployments of the Nokia Network Services Platform (NSP) which is deployed in 95% of the top 60 global service provider networks and 800+ providers globally. NSP allows operators to manage their network, provision services as well as increasingly providing carrier grade network automation.

This is a unique opportunity to work daily on critical infrastructure with customers/colleagues all over the globe to play your part in maintaining crucial networks and deploy new networks including 5G rollouts.

Required skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure; learning as you go.
  • Be able to communicate effectively by telephone and e-mail, even when expressing technical detail to customers who do not necessarily speak English as a first language.
  • The ability to work well in a team.

Additional desirable skills

  • Basic IP Networking
  • Good understanding of Linux (Particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux)
  • Basic bash scripting
  • Docker
  • Ansible
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of Virtualisation
  • Relational databases/SQL e.g. Oracle/Postgres
