What is Rating?

The Rating team is responsible for maintaining the rating engine for our Personal Lines Motor and Household products such as Car, Van, Home, and Landlord Insurance. We work closely with our Pricing and Analytics areas to understand their requirements and ensure that we carry out changes in a timely fashion. Our role is crucial in ensuring the customer journey is not affected.

What would your role entail?

Based within one of the Rating Teams, you will spend most of your time making changes to our rating structure using a software package called Ratabase. You will be part of a team that are responsible for ensuring that required changes to our rating structure are implemented correctly and the appropriate amount of testing is completed.

As your system knowledge grows, you will be expected to take on further responsibilities and become independent when carrying out investigation, building and testing of increasingly complex changes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 2.1 or above in a mathematical discipline
  • The ability to combine analytical thinking based on numbers together with common sense and ingenuity
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to review and write concise documents.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage your own workload
  • Confidence in liaising with team members and other departments both verbally and in writing
  • Experience of using Microsoft products such as Excel and Word
  • Any coding experience from school, university, or a hobby would be beneficial (i.e. VBA, SQL, Python, Java).

Additional Information

We also offer a steady path of career growth with many of our previous graduates progressing to Senior Programmers and a variety of leadership roles involving regular contact with the highest levels of decision making within our business.

Thanks to the culture and structure of our business, the skills and experience available in our Rating team would be transferable to other departments as we grow our product portfolio.

Furthermore, working in Cardiff, successful candidates would enjoy access to a vibrant culture of restaurants, shopping and nightlife as well as a gateway to stunning Welsh countryside including the sandy beaches of the Gower Peninsula and the rolling hills of the Brecon Beacons.

Benefits and Work-Life Balance

At Admiral, we are proud to be a diverse business where we put our people and customers first. We have great benefits to ensure employees have a great work-life balance; it's one of the reasons we're voted no. 1 in the 2019 Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For in the UK. We want you to have an element of freedom to define a working lifestyle that supports this, so accommodate flexible hours wherever possible.

COVID-19 update - Despite the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we are continuing to recruit, however we have made some adjustments to our recruitment processes. As opposed to face-to-face interviews, we’re currently conducting all interviews virtually. If you are successful in securing an interview, Admiral’s Recruitment team will advise you of the platform being used, and will be happy to trial this platform with you, or support you in getting set up prior to the interview. We are still actively offering positions, either leaving your start date as ‘to be confirmed’, or starting your remotely temporarily where possible.
