Job Description

The BE-CEM-MTA team has developed a software framework, called RADE, using LabVIEW that facilitates the development of measurement and analysis applications. These tools can increase the efficiency of target production and development and help the operators and users to tune ion source and the machine.

You will join the RILIS support and help improve the framework. The task consists of a set of developments, that should integrate into the existing control infrastructure, using MTA tools. This is a great opportunity to learn from close collaboration with Physicists and Laser Experts, understanding the basics of the accelerator control. 

Specifically, you will: 

  • Use LabVIEW on Windows and/or Linux depending on the environment.
  • Develop a monitoring and control systems using LabVIEW Real-Time and FPGA.
  • Be involved in development, installation, and maintenance of applications in facilities such as RILIS and photoemission lab.  
  • Work in the RADE development team and learn the BE-CEM-MTA working standards.
  • Study how CERN beam lines are working.
  • Implement dedicated tools according to internal client requirements and CEM guidelines.
  • Develop automated test of the tools using Jenkins.
  • Document the work on our section's Wiki pages.
  • Support the deployed applications and participate in their maintenance.

Your profile

Skills

  • Knowledge of software engineering practices (source code management and bug tracking);
  • Knowledge of LabVIEW, LabVIEW Real-Time and LabVIEW FPGA;
  • Knowledge of Python would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of Jenkins would be an advantage;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Basics knowledge in Linux and Windows;
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Software Engineer (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

What we offer

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5,196 and 5,716 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
