I’d applied to a few financial services companies, but after my interview with Capital One, I could see how much they invested in early careers and their offer was a step above the rest.
I mostly work on providing a stress-free customer experience for people applying for cards, but also play a big role in feeding back into the early careers system through training, mentoring, and coaching of others.
The mixture of maths, computing and real-world applications I learnt during my Physics degree from the University of Nottingham has really helped me here at Capital One. It covered everything from presentations to building software from scratch and using code to solve real-world Physics problems and I get to use all my skills daily.
With the work I’m involved in at the moment, we start off with a daily standup to get the team aligned on the day’s work. Next, I usually do a mix of planning and design on the systems we are building in the coming months, code pairing with other engineers to solve problems, and facilitating sessions to aid in cross team collaboration and knowledge sharing.
One of my biggest achievements and best experiences to date has been hitting a large milestone as a team – and then getting together to go out and celebrate!
