Environment

We strive to make a difference.

Our mission is “to help protect and improve the environment, conserve resources and tackle climate change for the benefit of current and future generations”.

We have established short and long-term targets designed to accelerate our transition away from fossil fuels, to enhance decision making based on whole life cycle emissions and to significantly reduce waste from our processes. Overall, the GRAHAM commitment is to deliver positive and lasting impact on the environment and to put environmental sustainability at the core of everything that we do.

Four key focus areas

Our environmental strategy is organised into four key focus areas. These allow us to effectively monitor, benchmark and track our performance, raise awareness and promote a programme of initiatives that will help contribute to resolving the environmental challenges that the planet faces.

1. Climate Action

As the defining challenge of our time, Climate Action is a key priority to us. It is business critical and embedded into all of our business-related decisions. We have set ambitious, science-based emission reductions targets and published our climate action strategy which sets out how we are taking action to become a Net Zero Carbon business.

2. Resource Efficiency

Our ambition is to have a net positive impact on resources, achieve zero avoidable waste and implement the principles of the circular economy. Following significant success in reducing the waste generated by our activities and diverting waste from landfill, our attention is now focused on eliminating avoidable waste at every stage of the project lifecycle.

3. Environmental Management and Improvement

We are committed to exceptional standards of environmental performance, benchmarking, environmental training, campaigning and awareness raising. In parallel, we employ best practice and consistently identify innovative opportunities to continually improve our environmental management system.

4. Protecting the Environment

In acknowledging our role in halting biodiversity and nature loss, we have developed a “Building for Biodiversity Plan” and established specific actions to protect and increase biodiversity through our activities. As evidence of our commitment, we were recently awarded Platinum in BITC’s Business and Biodiversity Charter.
