Team information:

In this role, you'll be part of our Engineering and Mechanical Design area, helping our clients to develop innovative and effective solutions to the wide array of complex engineering challenges and opportunities they face. Often described as doing the work which brings ideas into a physical reality. We support clients from all market sectors, working across the whole of the design lifecycle from blank sheet of paper concepts through detailled design, and on to design for manufacture and even production or commissioning. Every project is different.

We are looking for engineers or scientists who could be responsible for:

  • Developing innovative concepts and solutions, such as through brainstorming.
  • Undertaking concept down selection processes and systems engineering evaluations.
  • Creating high quality detailed designs for any stage of an assets lifecycle.
  • Authoring and verifying technical deliverables including 3D modelling, detailed drawings.
  • Working alongside manufacturing partners to have build prototypes and one off systems.
  • Independent design assessment and undertaking supporting design justification calculations.
  • Asset planning such as for maintenance performance upgrades or decommissioning.
  • Working with colleagues within and outside your disciplines to deliver multidisciplinary projects
  • Completing site walkdown surveys, developing test and commission plans.

What you’ll be doing at Frazer-Nash?

As a Design Engineer - Placement Year you will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle and all aspects of our business. You will be responsible for delivering your own technical work from day one, as part of client facing delivery teams. Furthermore, as part of helping you develop your technical and consultancy skills, you will be given the opportunity to develop proposals, bid for work, and manage projects.

Joining Frazer-Nash, you will become part of a family of passionate and dedicated consultants who are focused on delivering cutting edge solutions that exceed our clients’ expectations. From time-to-time there will also be the opportunity to support our clients working on site either local to your office, elsewhere in the UK or perhaps even abroad. These opportunities offer the potential to experience some large and internationally important projects up close and through a new lens.

What you’ll need?

We are looking for intelligent and inquisitive individuals, who are good communicators and can solve challenging problems. For this position you will need:

  • To be on course to obtaining a 2:1 or above in any of the following subjects: Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or similar disciplines.
  • An interest in and an aptitude for Systems Engineering and using a range of methods and techniques for solving complex problems.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external project stakeholders through various media (e.g. reports, presentations and meetings).
  • Organised and effective, so able to be deliver impactful work on budget and on time.
  • The following attributes are highly desirable for this position:
  • Experience of working in industry and/or consultancy through previous internships.
  • Final year individual/group projects which demonstrate your ability to solve complex problems and to work at a high level of quality.
  • Experience of leading teams within University projects and/or in extracurricular activities/hobbies.
