United Utilities provides water and sewage services to seven million people across the North West. United Utilities Outward Bound

Our new intake of graduates spent the week at Outward Bound team building and learning more about United Utilities.

We are looking for graduates that have the capability to engage with people at all levels of the business and develop into outstanding leaders of the future, helping to deliver our ambitious plans, drive performance and improve customer service in a safe working environment. You'll be rewarded for your commitment with a starting salary of £28,500, a massive 26 days of annual leave every year, which will increase to a maximum of 30 days after four years' service, plus bank holidays. Job Accountabilities

  • There are two distinct career pathway opportunities available; future leader and operational future leader, and we will work with you to determine the best route for you and your career path.
  • These roles and the supporting network we provide you with will create learning and development opportunities enabling you to realise your potential and develop a career pathway within a major utility company and service organisation. You will develop a high level understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework surrounding the water business and the operation and maintenance of our water and wastewater assets. 
  • As a future leader through our placement structure, you will have the opportunity to experience both the grass roots operations side of the business, and also our central strategy and planning functions.
  • As an operational future leader you will follow our operations pathway to develop a high level understanding of our operational management roles, through our placement structure, you will have the opportunity of structured placements in treatment and network operations, regulatory services, central operations, change management and asset management. 
  • We want you to think strategically to support the future development of our organisation and have the ability to motivate teams in order to improve performance and deliver the service levels that our customers and regulators require.
  • It's important that you possess excellent communication and influencing skills across all levels and have the capacity to develop strong leadership and financial skills. 

Knowledge and Skills

Our team has a strong reputation for excellence and our graduates are an important part of that success. 

We require our future leader graduates to have a minimum 2:1 in any relevant technical, scientific, environmental or engineering degree.

You will need to:

  • Be motivated, enthusiastic and have the potential to develop excellent leadership, influencing and communications skills.
  • Have good written and interpersonal skills.
  • Be an excellent team player, possessing ambition and drive.
  • Be able to have the ability to work across a matrix organisation to deliver desired outcomes.
  • Be able to work in a variety of different teams from operational to office based, be willing to travel if required and may need to be flexible with working hours at times.
  • We have a number of exciting opportunities across the organisation including water, wastewater, network, central operations, bio resources, customer and innovation.

Additional Information

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a virtual assessment centre which are taking place from 6 -17 December 2021.
