Our new intake of graduates spent the week at Outward Bound team building and learning more about United Utilities.
It's a big job and a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly for our customers. From operating our pipes and improving water quality, to embracing new technologies and safeguarding the local environment – whether you're in our head office or out on site, there's always plenty going on. Our internship programmes will give you the opportunity to learn first-hand how we make this happen.

You will be joining the United Utilities family of over 5,000 employees who all help to provide great service for our 7 million customers.
In the Engineering department the successful students will join a large team working on real business projects, carrying out a variety of engineering tasks.
There is an opportunity to develop your electrical engineering skills whilst gaining real world experience working alongside technical specialists and operational engineers solving problems that could impact customers and the environment.
You will gain an understanding of the wide range of electrical engineering technologies we use within the Water Industry, ranging from at a strategic level Price Reviews or more engineering based High Voltage (HV), renewable energy generation, through to Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications.
You will benefit from the shared knowledge within the Electrical Engineering Team and expertise of working with colleagues across the wider Engineering disciplines whilst also developing your own specialist skills and providing a valuable contribution to the team.
We will help you gain an understanding of the projects being undertaken by United Utilities and the methods used to deliver them. Specific tasks may be assigned during this time. You will be accountable for delivering these with the support of experienced engineers and your line manager.
During your 10 week internship you may also be given the opportunity to visit some our sites. You'll see how we carefully produce clean safe drinking water and how we treat wastewater in order to release it safely back in to the environment.
You will also get the opportunity to mix with our current graduates who can share experiences, tips and guidance with you for the next steps in your career.
