Carpmaels & Ransford is delighted to offer an Intern Programme at our Central London office between 24th June and 5th July 2019.

If you are attracted by the prospect of joining a firm at the forefront of intellectual property law, our two-week intern programme for aspiring patent attorneys could give you a real insight as to what the job entails.

The programme is designed to give you a better understanding of the profession and give an insight into working life at the firm. It includes seminars, case studies, work shadowing and involvement in client meetings and live cases. There is also an opportunity to see the social side of the firm, engaging with all members of the team from partners to trainees.

If successful, you will be paid for the duration and receive a contribution towards travel expenses; you will be responsible for your own accommodation.

Intern programme

With internships and other work experience in the patent profession being notoriously difficult to obtain, our intern programme is a rare opportunity to gain first-hand experience of what it is like to work within one of Europe’s leading firms of patent attorneys. Our programme normally takes place around June/July at our offices in Central London. It is designed to accelerate your understanding of the profession providing you with an insight into working life in Intellectual Property, in particular the working life at Carpmaels & Ransford.

Who should participate?

We typically offer up to 16 internships each year.

In order to enter the patent profession, it is a key requirement to have a STEM degree. For this role you must have a degree related to the following:

  • Chemistry / Pharma
  • Chemistry
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Medicinal Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  • Pharmacology.

Priority will be given to applicants who are expecting to complete their academic studies or research within the academic year following the intern programme.

What you need to have

  • Strong A'Levels, usually 3 at grade A or equivalent
  • Working towards a minimum 2.1 STEM degree
  • An excellent command of both written and spoken English
  • Keen interest in learning more about the profession
