Corporate & Social Responsibility

Having a positive impact on the lives of our people, our planet and the communities we serve is important to us. That includes ensuring we have a diverse and equal workplace, minimising our environmental impact and supporting national and local charities.

People: diversity and equality

The ongoing success of our business depends on our people, collectively and as individuals. We actively support diversity throughout the business and make every effort to create and maintain an inclusive culture.

A professional working environment that celebrates diversity and is free from discrimination promotes mutual respect and encourages quality, productivity and creativity.

For our incredibly wide-ranging client base, supporting diversity means we’re able to match clients with practitioners who have relevant experience and expertise, as well as cultural understanding.

As a firm, we operate a policy of equal opportunities in all aspects of employment practice.  We recruit, train and develop people regardless of gender, marital status, sexual orientation, colour, racial or ethnic origins, nationality, religion or belief, disability or age.

Planet: environmental approach

Marks & Clerk is committed to minimising its environmental impact and facilitating environmentally-friendly working practices for our people, suppliers and clients. Our environmental approach covers five main areas – office accommodation, working practices, energy use, travel policy and recycling consumables.

In our client work, cleantech is a key focus for us. We act for a number of clients in this sector supporting them with their innovations and businesses that benefit the environment.

Community: charities and fundraising

Marks & Clerk has for many years recognised the wider responsibilities of business in the community.

We encourage our people to get involved in activities that benefit wider society.

Recent Marks & Clerk initiatives include charity walks, runs, rides and other fund raising initiatives. These have benefitted national charities - such as those engaged in cancer research, heart disease research, children’s medical research and Parkinson’s disease  - as well as local hospices and causes.

We support a number of charities as a firm but recognise the wide range of concerns among our people and encourage local decision-making and fundraising.

We believe that time and personal commitment is as important as financial donations, providing value as well as personal satisfaction for the people making the contribution.

We’re very proud of the charitable initiatives many of our people are involved in individually, which complement the community activity we participate in as a firm.
