Gradcracker works here's the proof
Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm with a unique focus on technology, a scientific approach, and a deep understanding of markets to guide our business. We are a global liquidity provider and market maker, operating around the clock and around the globe, employing people in our offices in New York, London and Hong Kong.
We're looking for people who want to be in a challenging, constantly changing environment full of smart and intellectually curious people. We have a flat organisational structure with few titles. The environment at Jane Street is open, informal, intellectual and fun. The kitchen is fully stocked and discussions are always lively. Teaching and learning are central activities through classes, mentoring and discussion.
Our Trading Desk Operations role helps manage the operational side of the trading desk's activities and interfaces with various groups within the firm to ensure that all trades are reflected accurately in all systems. This involves coordinating with members of the internal infrastructure groups (Operations, Compliance, etc.) as well as external parties regarding issues such as monitoring trading windows, properly booking trades, and resolving breaks. The person in this role will become familiar with both the broad flow of the trading/settlement cycle as well as the regulatory and operational considerations of each step.
Each of our desks are different, but examples of other projects include maintaining complex spreadsheets, optimising existing processes, and developing new tools for the desk to use day-to-day. In this position you will also learn a few things from us. We will teach you the details of how many financial markets operate, and you will learn about trading via in-house classes, guest lectures and on the job training. You will also learn how to interact with and manage complex trading systems.
You should be a self-motivated critical thinker who can multitask and enjoys a fast-paced, highly intellectual environment. The ability to take on and manage your own projects is key. A quantitative background and technical skills are also important for this role - candidates should have a strong foundation in mathematics, Excel, VBA and also be comfortable working with data.
This role requires someone honest, reliable and articulate, who can communicate with different teams on a variety of subjects. We don't expect you to know everything immediately, but the right person will be eager to learn and feel comfortable asking questions. You should be willing to accept criticism from others and look at any mistake as an opportunity to grow.
