The company

As a leading British manufacturer of iconic clay and concrete building products, Forterra’s highly respected brands are instantly recognised across the construction sector.

We create bricks, blocks, precast concrete, paving and all sorts of other trusted building materials from an extensive network of 18 manufacturing sites around the country. We currently employ in excess of 1,900 people… and we’re searching for our next generation of leaders!

London Brick - A Forterra brand

2017 marked 140 years of production of the iconic London Brick, of which Forterra UK is sole manufacturer.

The role

Our Operations Management Graduate Programme has been designed to make sure you develop all the necessary skills you’ll need to kickstart a successful career in the manufacturing industry.

During the programme, you will be given complete exposure across our leading business practices – with the opportunity to learn directly from experienced professionals on-site instead of the classroom.

The 24 month programme has been tailor-made for you to evolve your knowledge and understand how our culture and values affect our everyday business – while offering you the freedom to pursue your own path.

You’ll begin with an initial induction period before rotating across different divisions, such as Buying, Quality or Management, featuring a variety of live projects. You will learn how a site operates from the factory floor to operational management level, playing an important role in the implementation of key projects and striving to meet the objectives of our operational sites.

As one of our Graduates, you will be paired with a senior mentor who will guide you with qualified support and advice throughout the programme. To support your ongoing development, we’ll also expect you to complete a variety of business projects throughout the process, using the experience and insight gained during your placements to contribute towards your junior management consultant qualification.

About you

This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate looking to fast track their career while earning a competitive salary with some amazing benefits. As part of our unique programme, we are looking for focused, motivated and enthusiastic individuals to help us stay ahead of the game and lead us towards further success in the future.

You’ll need to have gained a degree in a relevant discipline such as materials science, operations management or business management. We want pro-active people who can take responsibility for any projects they are assigned. You’ll also need to possess excellent IT and presentation skills, and be able to communicate with staff at all levels.

  • A 2:1 degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Material Science, Industrial Management, Operations Management, Production Management, Procurement etc).
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across the country if required.

  • Annual bonus
  • Pension scheme
  • Car provision if required
  • 27 days' annual leave (plus bank holidays)
  • Free shared accommodation for your first year (at graduate house)
