About the role: 

This placement sits in Research and Development, and within the Pilot Plant Team. The main focus of the placement is to help build the fundamental understanding of coffee roasting, with an emphasis on yield, aroma and flavor improvements. Evaluation of new technologies and applying strategies for moving newly formed scientific knowledge into applications for consumer benefits.

Key responsibilities of the role:  

  • Drive to get to the answers to the key scientific questions
  • Communicate project outcomes to key stakeholders in a timely and relevant manner
  • Detailed but concise report writing 
  • Development of hypotheses, design and execution of experiments to prove/disprove these hypothesis 
  • Following pilot plant and analytical operations, procedures, and safe use of equipment

For this role as an intern, we’re looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:

  • An enthusiasm for understanding the science of coffee
  • Studying chemical engineering / scientific subject (on course for at least 2:I degree)
