Graduate Quantity Surveyor

"The training opportunities on offer are great and have helped me develop my 'out of the box' thinking."

Describe the skills you have gained since working for Multiplex?

My first year at Multiplex has provided me with the fundamental skills to think commercially in construction projects. This is exactly what I was seeking from the role, and I am excited to build on it as my current project progresses.

How would you describe the people you work with at Multiplex?

Everyone that I have worked with at Multiplex has been approachable, personable and professional. It’s clear that Multiplex has been successful in attracting excellent talent to the business.

How has Multiplex supported your long-term career goals?

The management team that I have worked with has been receptive and accommodating of my long-term career goals. The Multiplex graduate programme provides a solid framework to develop the skills and knowledge required, reinforced by the support available for gaining membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

What value do you think your role brings to your project?

I am able to add value by effectively managing, monitoring and reporting on cost as my project progresses, and assessing the value of work to be undertaken. I procure subcontracts and agree variations to gain best value while maintaining strong relationships with other parties. Every day presents opportunities to make an impact on the commercial success of the project.

Aside from your day-to-day role, what other opportunities have you enjoyed since working for Multiplex?

I have been involved in a number of internal and external sporting, charity and social events which I have found have been a great opportunity to network. I have also attended a number of site visits, which have allowed me to gain a wider understanding of the industry.

Why did you choose to work for Multiplex?

During the interview process, it became apparent to me that Multiplex do not strive to be the biggest construction company in the market – they strive to be the best. This particularly resonated with me and there are few construction contractors out there with the same philosophy.

What future do you see for yourself in the company?

My ambition is to continue developing my skills, knowledge and experience and work towards a senior position in the business. The sky is the limit, and I am always willing to step up and take on more responsibility where it presents itself.

What is your current role?

I am a Graduate Quantity Surveyor on Aykon London One.

What’s been your proudest achievement at Multiplex so far?

My proudest achievement to date has been successfully managing the procurement of a brickwork and blockwork package. I worked from the beginning on the procurement, building the scope, driving the design development with the consultants, analysing tender returns and finally agreeing the subcontract. I pursued various opportunities during the procurement process with a rewarding outcome.

What do you think of the Multiplex Graduate Programme?

Multiplex has developed a good graduate programme that is continuously improving. The training opportunities on offer are great and have helped me develop my 'out of the box' thinking – I am confident that the programme will get better each year.
