Dounreay is Scotland's largest decommissioning project and is widely recognised as Europe's most complex nuclear closure programme. For more than 50 years it was known as the centre of the UK's fast reactor research and development and now the team is aiming to be recognised as a centre of excellence for nuclear decommissioning. Dounreay offers an opportunity to be involved in some of the UK's most leading edge technical projects, developing unique skills and experiences which are highly sought after across the industry.

Introduction to Dounreay

The video provides an overview of one of the most complex nuclear site closure projects in Europe, where the workforce is engaged in taking apart Britain’s former centre of research and development.

Your position

At Dounreay we can give you an experience like no other. On joining our two year programme you will gain frontline practical experience while having the opportunity to develop your professional qualifications and accreditations. The programme is built around project placements within operational, projects or support functions together with appropriate short-term secondments. This is designed to support you gaining Chartered Status. By joining Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) you will be taking the first steps towards a challenging and rewarding career in the nuclear decommissioning industry.  

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must have achieved, or expect to achieve, a 2:1 in an engineering, built environment, science or business related subject.
  • Masters level qualifications are preferred.
