IoT Electronics Design Engineer

Working as part of a multidisciplinary R&D team the candidate will assist the concept, design and development of IoT and connectivity for new products within low and zero carbon technologies. The candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, testing and on-going support of the electronic products incorporating remote connectivity technologies.

COOL-PHASE® is a revolutionary Phase Change Material (PCM) based low energy, cooling, ventilation and heat recovery system for use within Commercial, Academic and Health Care environments.

Detailed Duties of the Job

  1. Working to design new systems, circuits and devices or develop existing technology
  2. Generating concepts, presenting and communicating ideas
  3. Testing theoretical designs
  4. Systematically improving the detailed design of a piece of electronic equipment
  5. Detailed engineering design
  6. Using Matlab and Simulink to test control programmes
  7. Using analogue and Digital design including PCB layout
  8. Using embedded C programming for Microcontrollers
  9. Development of IoT technologies, creation of user interfaces and creating data storage methodologies
  10. Design for manufacture, including selecting manufacturing methods and materials
  11. Creating bills of materials, parts lists and working to minimise cost
  12. Testing and problem solving design features on the electronic product features
  13. Ensuring that a product will work with devices developed by others, can be made again reliably, and will perform consistently in specified operating environments
  14. Ensuring safety regulations are met
  15. Project planning and preparing budgets, monitoring project progress and assigning work packages
  16. Visiting customer sites and commissioning products on site
  17. Project lead management of projects/work packages and reporting progress to senior management
  18. Writing technical reports
  19. Keeping up to date with developments in technologies and regulations
  20. Documenting design, installation, servicing, and maintenance regimes
  21. Reviewing standards to create design guidelines

Whilst the above are specific duties for the role this list is not exhaustive.

Essential Qualification and Skills Required*

  • Masters qualified in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
  • Written and Verbal communication skills (English)
  • Experience of remote connectivity 
  • Experience of Analogue and Digital design including PCB layout
  • Experience of embedded C programming for Microcontrollers

*Must be eligible to work in the UK without restriction
*Must hold a valid UK driving license or hold a license permitted in the UK.

Desirable Factors

  • Relevant experience in Electronic Design
  • Experience or exposure to the HVAC industry or building management systems
