Application Process & Tips

You’ve decided you’re ready for a career move, but how do you go about applying for a job at GSK? Here we share some practical advice on making sure GSK is the right company for you, and how you can submit the best possible application.

Application tips for the Industrial Placement from our Recruiter
Application tips from our Recruiter, Bethany.

We believe your experience of applying for a role with us should be collaborative and enjoyable.

We’re interested in what you can bring to GSK but at the same time, we want you to assess whether we’re right for you – and, as each role is different, whether the one you’re applying for is also the best fit for you.

1. Online Application Form

Our application form doesn’t take long to complete. We’ll ask you to upload your CV, complete details about your studies and confirm your eligibility to work in the market where your chosen programme is based.

Make sure you meet the criteria for your chosen programme. If you don’t, you may receive an automatic response declining your application.

2. World of GSK Online Assessment

In most markets, we’ll invite you to complete our ‘World of GSK’ online assessment to help us determine your strengths and suitability for one of our Early Talent programmes. It will also give you an insight into what we do and how we work.

You’ll watch videos featuring some of our colleagues who will tell you about what they do at GSK. We’ll then set up scenarios and ask you how you would manage the situation.

After you complete the World of GSK assessment, we’ll let you know if you’ve made it to the next stage. You’ll also get personalised feedback to help you develop your strengths further.

Don’t worry, you don’t need any knowledge of GSK, or the healthcare sector to succeed at this stage of the application, or at any stage.

3. GSK Life Job Simulation

Make it through to the next stage and we’ll see how you might perform in your chosen programme. This is also your chance to get a feel for what it might be like to work with us.

You’ll be presented with a scenario with some key business facts and asked to respond through video, writing and multiple choice. We’ll also ask you more about why you want to work here and, if you’ve applied for a technical role, we’ll ask you some technical questions.

Whether you make it through to the next round or not, we’ll give you feedback to help you maximise your strengths in future.

4. Assessment Centre

If you progress to our Assessment Centre then congratulations  — you’re through to our final stage!

Here, you will gain an even greater insight into what it’s like to work at a world-leading healthcare organisation. You’ll also have the opportunity to see how you’ll fit in. You can ask questions, meet potential future colleagues and see our working culture for yourself.

You’ll spend half a day taking part in immersive exercises. These may include individual exercises, a group or paired exercise and a strengths-based interview. Depending on your chosen programme, you might also have to give a presentation and complete a practical or technical exercise.

You’ll receive more information in your Assessment Centre invite.

5. Accept Our Offer

Great news! If you succeed at the Assessment Centre, we’ll make you an offer to join your chosen Early Talent programme. We’ll talk you through the next steps and use everything we’ve learned about you to make sure you get off to the best possible start in your future career.

You’ve done very well and are about to embark on an exceptional graduate programme at one of the world’s largest healthcare companies.

Tips to make your application stand out

Here are some tips to help you make a successful application:

CV

Make sure that you highlight your most relevant experience and showcase the skills and experience you can bring. Your CV should be both easy to read and follow; try to avoid using too many acronyms and keep the format simple and clear.

Network

Make the most of your networks. Use your friends, mentors and contacts to get further insight into GSK. Sign up to Connectr getahead to meet current GSK employees and to learn more about the culture of the organisation while going through the application process.

You will be asked to complete a written assessment to assess your suitability – this is your opportunity to show if you can do something, and if you enjoy doing it.

You will be asked some questions to assess your motivation, interest in the role and some skills to succeed on the placement. The recruiters want to hear how you communicate to them about the things you like to do and your interests. It is important that any examples you share are clear and related to the question being asked.

You may also be asked some technical questions, depending on the role you apply for.
