Achieve your career goals on our apprentice programme

On our 4-year programme receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts from day one combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress.

You’ll be working towards a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Project Management. This programme will be taught through blended distance learning.

If you are offered a role; you will have a buddy or a mentor who will help you to prepare for joining GSK and will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your Apprenticeship.

Working with both your line and programme manager we want to identify the right opportunities to help you succeed in the short term and throughout your career with us. 

What will you do?

Your apprenticeship will be in the Project Management Excellence team that is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of Project Management processes, business rules and practices across GSK R&D, to support the drug/vaccine development with excellence in project management discipline across all phases. This encompasses methodologies, training and behaviours enabling the teams to manage the projects efficiently.

You will be based at the Global Headquarters for GSK in Brentford and be part of the Strategy, Portfolio and Operations (SPO) department within R&D.

Your duties might include:

  • Supporting and leading enterprise R&D projects to pipeline project delivery from start to finish, whilst developing the following skills:
  • Project Management
  • Leadership
  • Financial Management
  • Change Management
  • Organisational Strategy
  • Stakeholder & Communications Management
  • Risk Management
  • Governance & Quality Assurance
  • Working with cross functional teams across the globe to ensure the successful delivery of projects
  • Exploring continuous improvement opportunities to improve and ensure an efficient project delivery process, developing your creativity.
  • Utilising data to drive analytics and provide insights.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship there are a variety of career development options as the department is incredibly diverse from Strategy, Portfolio and Operations roles to opportunities to move across R&D and lead Pipeline Asset projects.

You’ll be excited by the thought of:  

  • Learning about drug development 
  • Enabling medicines and vaccines to reach patients worldwide
  • Gaining broad experience across the field of Research and Development of breakthrough medicines
  • Developing your problem-solving and solutions-oriented mindset to support project delivery
  • Developing your business skills (Project Management, Change Management, Strategy) and understanding of the Pharmaceutical industry
  • Learning how to prioritise and manage projects, objectives, and deadlines with high attention to detail.
  • Working across a global matrix organisation
  • Studying towards your Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Project Management.
  • Exploring further continuous development opportunities for further accreditation (e.g – Project Management Professional Certification etc…)

Education required

  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent grade 9-5 (A*-C) including Maths and English Language (not Literature).
  • To have achieved or be predicted to achieve a minimum of 96 UCAS points from your top 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) not including General Studies.
  • To include 3 A-Levels at grade C or above.
