A day in the life of...

About the role:

Your role will be to support the Global Medical Affairs team, which is at an exciting key inflection point. In 2022 there will be major new approvals and rollouts of differentiated and/or niche medicines. This will require more specialised support from Global Medical Affairs, compared to previous years, and you will help ensure the relevant healthcare professionals have the data needed to enable prompt and appropriate access for patients. Apart from working in product-specific teams, you will have the chance to work in the paediatrics, patient affairs and portfolio teams. 

In addition to working within this unique operating model in ViiV Global Medical, you will gain the opportunity for coaching within your team; receive mentoring within the Commercial side; the chance to network with industry professionals; engage with our research and development teams for a broad exposure to pharmaceutical drug development; and, be provided with stretch objectives based on your interests and skills.  

Key Responsibilities:  

Your responsibilities may include the following, depending on interest and availability:  

  • Expand your scientific knowledge base
  • Supporting the medical team to generate, translate and review data around HIV treatment, to support  and train wider teams within the organisation, conduct product-related literature searches to support great understanding of topics related to HIV care and more.
  • Data published in recent conferences – discussions, key takeaways and implications for ART 
  • A comprehensive literature review on the effects of Anti-retrovirals on bone health, make suggestions on how best to present the data in a training slide deck. 
  • Literature review to update the epidemiology section of a product’s Risk Management Plan for upcoming renewal.
  • Work as part of a team to produce a data gaps analysis plan to inform research strategy for clinical trials, gain experience in research methodology.
  • Conduct a review of how injection site reactions are reported in early stage clinical trials and in package inserts of new products, to inform the medical team prior to the launch of a new injectable product.  

Cross Functional Exposure 

  • Work with the medical, commercial and finance teams to plan for the launch of new products.   
  • Assist commercial teams in the development of medically accurate promotional material for the use of sales representatives after a product launch
  • With guidance from finance, produce a plan for the medical teams budget for the following year. 
  • Analysing and summarising responses from healthcare professionals on their perceptions of a new product and which patient’s populations they intend to treat it with to inform non medically trained staff. 

Develop valuable Project Management Skills 

  • Gain valuable transferable skills through experience and exposure.
  • Work with other Industrial Placement students and medical leads to produce a biweekly newsletter to report hot topics in R&D, data presentations from conferences and product launches. 
  • Briefing creative agencies on specific projects, for example an animated video describing the effects of anti-retrovirals to bone health, manage their execution timelines and budget. 
  • Facilitate a meeting with global regional medical leads to develop next year’s strategy and a plan of when new medical training materials will be produced. 

This is a fast-paced and dynamic team responsible for a wide range of activities, so there is flexibility in what projects you choose to work on based on your own personal development objectives and interests.

You will have, or will be willing to quickly learn, the following:

  • Good project management skills 

Degree requirements:

You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree, but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You may be expected to provide evidence from your university to show you will be an undergraduate student for the duration of the placement year and they are supportive of your placement.

  • A salary of £22,500, plus a bonus
