Aston WayThe project aim was to maximise the usable land on a sloping development site at Manning’s Heath Road, in Poole, to create a car parking area. Suttle Piling were contracted to design, supply and install a sheet piled retaining wall to BS EN 1997-1. This involved using more than 90 Larssen L605 interlocking sheet piles. The completed wall enabled the excavation down to the desired level to facilitate the installation of a Type 1 Limestone sub-base (supplied by our colleagues at Suttle Stone Quarries). This was later surfaced with tarmac to create a car parking area. The design life of the final solution will be 120 years. |

Woodlands Burial GroundWoodlands Burial Ground is a natural woodland cemetery. The location features a fairly high-water table. After the site operator decided to construct a crematorium to enhance their service, Suttle Projects were tasked with creating a large water-tight basement with secant piling. This technique features the construction of a wall, made up of female and male piles. To install the piles, we utilised an RTG 19T leader rig equipped with a double rotary auger and casing attachment. |

Langport EmbankmentThe project aim was to stabilise an existing railway embankment that was subject to continual problems with track settlement and general subsidence. In order to contain the subsidence, we installed twin lines of steel sheet piles up to 23m long. The sheet piles were tied with grouted soil anchors facilitating a regrade of the upper rail embankment to provide for stable slopes going forward. |

Bournemouth Beach GroynesThe project aim was to renew coastal defences at Southbourne Beach, Bournemouth, to provide ongoing protection of assets and property from coastal erosion and damage, and protect the sand beach as an amenity. Suttle Projects were contracted to replace 12 timber groynes, in accordance with Bournemouth Borough Council’s designs. These structures prevented the long shore drift of sand, thus protecting beaches from unwanted erosion. |
