I started as a Degree Apprentice in September, straight after my A Levels in the summer. I decided to do a Degree Apprenticeship as I know the importance of having a degree but didn’t want the student debt. I’ve always been interested in engineering, so this was just the right opportunity. And I earn a salary! I go to UWL in Ealing one day a week and for the other 4 days I work in the office assisting the engineers on various projects.
I’ve produced multiple drawing types from vehicle tracking to setting out, I have also had the opportunity to go out and visit sites. You have to be organised in balancing uni work with work in the office but it’s manageable.
After 4 years I’ll have a BEng and loads of valuable work experience, so I’ll be in a great position for my career to really take off. I get plenty of support in the office from my mentor, Phil, who also did a degree apprenticeship, so he knows exactly the sort of advice and guidance I need to succeed.
