"I knew I wanted to work in an established and experienced global engineering company within the energy industry."
I knew I wanted to work in an established and experienced global engineering company within the energy industry. Like many others, I applied to various organisations without getting a real feel for the company.
It wasn’t until my assessment centre where I learnt about the wealth of knowledge and experience accumulated within KBR. A key advice I received was “an energy revolution is on the horizon and now is a great time to enter the industry”. The variety in projects from petrochemical to renewables and type of consulting work is what attracted me to KBR Consulting.
KBR Consulting has a variety of work ranging from Petrochemical Strategy to Renewable Feasibility Studies. The nature of projects are fast-paced, lasting anywhere between few weeks to a few months. I also enjoy the scope of international projects such as looking at a country wide energy master-plan or developing a transactional strategy within the downstream industry.
One of the best and rewarding aspects are the people who develop a great atmosphere, always willing to help. It makes KBR Consulting an enjoyable place to work.
I work as part of the process consulting team, which contribute by doing market research, financial model reviews, report writing and client presentations. Often we work directly with the clients which involves international travel. My role can be quite varied since the nature of work is reflective therefore this creates plenty of opportunities for development.
I’ve been involved with Technical Advisory Strategy, which looked into developing a chemical licensor strategy as a new market entry. I also worked on Petrochemical Crude to Chemical Feasibility Project. This project involved developing a financial and technical feasibility study for a prospective refinery and petrochemical facility.
The type of work can range from technical studies to financial reviews, which is what I love about the projects.
KBR have IMPACT, an organisation for engineers with less than 7 years’ experience. The aim of this is to get you involved and network within the company and help towards chartership. I was voted as Chair representative, and organised company events for Leadership and Development Training, Company Socials such as the Summer Party and Charity Events like Redbull Timelaps.
KBR also provides many other opportunities to help towards chartership, including Lunch & Learns and site visits to industrial facilities.
