As we continue to expand, we are seeking a CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) Engineer to join our team. You will play a crucial role in the adoption of CAM within Rail-Ability, developing the necessary processes to transform design models into precision-manufactured parts.
Rail-Ability Road-Rail Ballast Under Cutter
Testing and Demonstrating our new Ballast Undercutting Machine with Network Rail and SNC Lavalin.
You will get the best out of a range of CNC equipment including CNC milling/boring machines as well as CNC welding robots. You will work closely with our design and machining teams to develop and optimize CNC programs, ensuring efficient and accurate manufacturing processes.

Your Business as Usual:
Develop and optimize CNC programs for machining processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and high-quality output.
Tooling Selection: Choose appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials based on design specifications and production requirements.
Process Improvement: Continuously question and improve manufacturing processes and adopt emerging technologies to enhance productivity, reduce cycle times, ensure consistency and accuracy, adopting more offline programming where appropriate.
Collaboration: Work closely with design engineers, machinists, and Engineering and Factory managers to ensure seamless communication and execution of design and manufacturing plans and design-for-manufacture principles.
Quality Control: Monitor and inspect machining operations to ensure parts meet design specifications and quality standards.
Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of CNC programs, tool setups, and machining processes.
Training & Support: Provide training and technical support to machinists and other team members on CNC programming and machine operation.
Promote a health and safety culture within the company.
The Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar. Experience may substitute for education.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in CAM programming and CNC machining, preferably in a automotive or heavy engineering setting.
Proficient in CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360 CAM, SolidCAM, NX CAM), CNC programming, and knowledge of G-code and M-code.
Experience of working with technical welding drawings.
Excellent IT skills use of Microsoft Office Software Packages, Word, Excel, Visio.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication. Able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Attention to Detail: High level of precision and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
