March 2018 Prize

This month’s prize, for two lucky winners (plus a friend each), is to enjoy a tailored tour of Lendlease’s International Quarter London (IQL) project, a boat trip through the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and a slide down the ArcelorMittal Orbit!

On the day

Your experience will start at 11:30am, when you’ll meet senior members and graduates at the IQL project. You'll then join them for lunch, provided by Lendlease. This will be followed by a tour of the project, which can be tailored to your interests and studies.

Then, at 3pm, you’ll enjoy a boat tour (subject to weather) of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, exploring the site that became so iconic during the summer of 2012. At 4:30pm, you’ll be offered the chance to experience the ArcelorMittal Orbit - the UK’s tallest sculpture, and the world’s longest tunnel slide.

Harry Jenkins from Coventry University and Oliver Appleby from Liverpool John Moores University. They will be enjoying their prize at the end of April and we hope to feature video/pictures from the day shortly.

January 2018 Prize

This month's prize consists of a visit to RAF Coningsby to meet senior engineering officers and sit in the cockpit of a Typhoon fighter plane, ‘the world's most advanced fighter aircraft’.

On the day

You’ll be picked up on the RAF bus from Grantham Train Station and taken to Cranwell, where you’ll meet the RAF Engineer recruiter. Then, you’ll travel to RAF Coningsby, and meet its Chief Engineering Officer.

After lunch in the Officers' Mess, an Aerosystems Engineering Officer from 29 Squadron will introduce you to the Typhoon aircraft, and you’ll even get to sit in its cockpit! You’ll then meet a Communications Electronics Engineer Officer from the Ground Support Systems Flight.

Afterwards, you’ll meet a Communications Electronics Engineer Officer from 90 Signals Unit. They’ll talk about how they provide the deployed communications and data networks that keep everything functioning. You’ll then return to Grantham Station for 4pm.

November 2017 Prize

3M is a technology company that prides itself on innovation. This innovation enables them to create new technologies to help make the world a safer and healthier place.

On the day

Your day will start at the train station, where you’ll hop onto the free 3M Shuttle Bus to their site for 10.30am. Once you arrive, you’ll be given a general introduction to 3M, followed by a tour around the Customer Innovation Centre.

You’ll then get the chance to have lunch with R&D experts, with the opportunity to ask questions about their role, what it’s like to work for 3M, and any tips they might have for applying. Afterwards, you’ll be able to visit the laboratories to watch the team and their products in action.

At 3.30pm, you’ll get the Shuttle Bus back to the train station.

October 2017 Prize Details

Leonardo’s Helicopter Division manages the design, development, test and production of the most complete range of rotary aircraft available for commercial, public utility, security and defence use.

On the day

You’ll be picked up at the train station in Yeovil and whisked off to Leonardo’s base. Then, at 11am, you’ll meet the recruitment team and current graduates. You’ll be able to ask them questions about the company, find out what it’s like to be a graduate at Leonardo, and learn some useful hints and tips for applying.

After lunch, supplied by Leonardo, you’ll be offered a tour of the build line followed by an opportunity to sample a flight on one of their latest simulators.

The day will end at 3pm, when you’ll get a taxi back to the train station.

Gradcracker's Prize Draw winner takes flight with Leonardo

The winner of the Gradcracker national competition got to experience the thrill of flying a Leonardo helicopter when they took the controls in the company’s ultra-realistic flight simulator, as part of their prize of a tour of the Yeovil site.

The winner Chloe Hodgson currently studies Aerospace Engineering at The University of Bristol, and won the competition out of 300 other students who entered the prize draw. After getting the chance to pose questions to the Recruitment Team and graduates who are currently on the company’s engineering graduate scheme, Chloe and her guests (fellow students Kate Goldup and Harry Clarke) were given a tour of Yeovil's stunning Helicopters Build Line before experiencing a helicopter flight simulation.  Read more
