This month's prize, for five lucky winners, is to enjoy a tour of 3M’s incredible Customer Innovation Centre in Bracknell, Berkshire, including a visit to their laboratories and lunch with their R&D experts.

November Prize - 5 Winners

3M is a technology company that prides itself on innovation. This innovation enables them to create new technologies to help make the world a safer and healthier place.

On the day

Your day will start at the train station, where you’ll hop onto the free 3M Shuttle Bus to their site for 10.30am. Once you arrive, you’ll be given a general introduction to 3M, followed by a tour around the Customer Innovation Centre.

You’ll then get the chance to have lunch with R&D experts, with the opportunity to ask questions about their role, what it’s like to work for 3M, and any tips they might have for applying. Afterwards, you’ll be able to visit the laboratories to watch the team and their products in action.

At 3.30pm, you’ll get the Shuttle Bus back to the train station.

December Prize

The prize this month comes from Roke, who are offering one lucky winner a 'technology hamper’ worth almost £400.

Roke Manor Research Limited is a contract research and development business for communications, networks, and electronic sensors. It’s created technologies such as Hawk-Eye, a ball-tracking computer system which is now used widely in sports such as tennis and cricket.

January Prize - 4 winners

January’s prize consists of a visit to RAF Coningsby to meet senior engineering officers and sit in the cockpit of a Typhoon fighter plane, ‘the world's most advanced fighter aircraft’.

On the day

You’ll be picked up on the RAF bus from Grantham Train Station and taken to Cranwell, where you’ll meet the RAF Engineer recruiter. Then, you’ll travel to RAF Coningsby, and meet its Chief Engineering Officer.

After lunch in the Officers' Mess, an Aerosystems Engineering Officer from 29 Squadron will introduce you to the Typhoon aircraft, and you’ll even get to sit in its cockpit! You’ll then meet a Communications Electronics Engineer Officer from the Ground Support Systems Flight.

Afterwards, you’ll meet a Communications Electronics Engineer Officer from 90 Signals Unit. They’ll talk about how they provide the deployed communications and data networks that keep everything functioning. You’ll then return to Grantham Station for 4pm.

  • If you have far to travel, then the option to stay at Cranwell the night before or after the visit is available.

March Prize - 2 Winners

This month’s prize, for two lucky winners (plus a friend each), is to enjoy a tailored tour of Lendlease’s International Quarter London (IQL) project, a boat trip through the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and a slide down the ArcelorMittal Orbit!

On the day

Your experience will start at 11:30am, when you’ll meet senior members and graduates of the IQL project at their office and enjoy lunch, provided by Lendlease, together. This will be followed by a tour of the project, which can be tailored to your interests and studies.

Then, at 3pm, you’ll enjoy a boat tour of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (subject to weather), exploring the site that became so iconic during the summer of 2012. At 4:30pm, you’ll be offered the chance to experience the ArcelorMittal Orbit - the UK’s tallest sculpture, and the world’s longest tunnel slide.

October 2017 Prize Details

Leonardo’s Helicopter Division manages the design, development, test and production of the most complete range of rotary aircraft available for commercial, public utility, security and defence use.

On the day

You’ll be picked up at the train station in Yeovil and whisked off to Leonardo’s base. Then, at 11am, you’ll meet the recruitment team and current graduates. You’ll be able to ask them questions about the company, find out what it’s like to be a graduate at Leonardo, and learn some useful hints and tips for applying.

After lunch, supplied by Leonardo, you’ll be offered a tour of the build line followed by an opportunity to sample a flight on one of their latest simulators.

The day will end at 3pm, when you’ll get a taxi back to the train station.


Chloe Hodson, studying Aerospace at Bristol University. She and two friends from her course, Harry Clarke and Kate Goldup, will be enjoying their prize in late November and we hope to feature video/pictures from the day shortly.
