Bradford Chemical Engineering Society (ChemEng)

The society is run by Chemical Engineering students and is involved in many events aimed at all engineering students. We pride ourselves on being a society which directly engages and interacts with students and is dedicated to make them better engineers.

The society not only provides fun social activities but also tries to benefit students by being committed to helping them with academic or personal issues. One of our key priorities is to emphasise the importance of industrial placements to our fellow students through support and encouragement by many of us who have previously completed industrial placements at companies including Bosch, BASF, Solenis, Hyrcrome and GSK.

We do a variety of beneficial, interactive and fun activities such as:

  • Socials
  • Guest lectures by alumni and industry representatives
  • Dinners
  • Frank Morton (Chemical engineers only)

The current executives have vowed to make the Chemical Engineering Society a much more professional and active Society than ever before.

Events and Projects

Refreshers' Fair

On the 24th January, the chemical engineering society team welcomed all students to refreshers' fair in the student union! Games were played and many sweets given, as well as our new members being given a free notebook! We loved meeting everyone and look forward to seeing everyone throughout the course of the year.

Frank Morton

After hosting a virtual Frank Morton sporting event in 2021, Bradford’s Chem Eng Soc continues to attend the event, such as Newcastle in 2022. Join us in Swansea this upcoming February!

Alumni Dinner

Every year the alumni dinner is a HUGE success, recently with alumni from graduating years of 1967-2021. Seeing how everyone has progressed with their degrees after graduation is a true inspiration and an event lecturers also love to attend.

Socials

Social time is another key aspect of our society; bowling, karaoke, games nights and laser tag are all amazing FUN activities on offer. This year, games night, escape rooms and go karting are also on the cards!

Industrial visits

Getting out and about in industry is another awesome way the chemical engineering society networks with employers. Previous trips to DRAX power station are sure to reoccur as well as more. Where to next?

Lecturer Talks

Learning about the research of university professors enables our members to really grasp different fields and areas of study they can specialise in and what better way than learning about your lecturer’s own research.
