Defence Scientific Research
Dstl is responsible for designing, developing and applying the very latest in science and technology to protect the UK.
  • Dstl is a government organisation dedicated to science and technology in the defence and security field.
  • We work with industry, academia and government to make sure the UK has the right defence science and technology capabilities, and to deliver work for our customers in the Ministry of Defence and the rest of government.
  • Our key responsibilities are to identify and monitor national security risks and opportunities and to protect the UK and our interests at home, at our border, and internationally.

Particle Physics
Take part in the largest scientific experiment in the world and probe the fundamental structure of the universe at CERN.
  • Based in Switzerland, CERN is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research.
  • Whilst CERN’s main focus is particle physics, its research ranges from nuclear to high-energy physics, and from studies of antimatter to the possible effects of cosmic rays on clouds.
  • CERN uses the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, such as the Large Hadron Collider.
  • CERN has made many ground-breaking discoveries, including the Higgs boson particle in 2012.
