Sales Associate/Sales Executive, Sustainable Heating Division

Energy, Sustainability.

Who we are

Midsummer is a fast-growing company selling a range of renewable energy products, primarily to installation companies, from our offices in Cambridge, Glasgow and Dublin. We sell heat pumps, solar PV systems, battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, and a variety of other associated products, and were recognised as the UK's best renewables distributor for 2020 and 2022.

The Eco Home
Midsummer began on a narrowboat in 2005. Our MD Andy lived off-grid and, as a former climate scientist, had experience with PV and battery systems in remote locations.

Founded in 2005, we’re now on our 8th warehouse, process around 60,000 orders a year and have a team of over 140 people across the UK and Ireland offices. In addition to our growing gang of friendly staff and a lean, efficient operation, we have a suite of web tools that make design and ordering extremely easy.

As an organisation, we have a strong environmental ethos and a passion for promoting the uptake of renewables, and our team share a belief in an open and honest approach to business.

Unusually for a distributor, we have an in-house team of developers and have built our own software Easy-PV, for solar PV and Heatpunk for heat pumps. It's both a sales channel and helpful tool for our customers, but is invaluable for our own team too.

The Role

You will be providing support to the Sales and Administrative teams, and dealing with customer enquiries and orders in the Sustainable Heating Division. Mainly this will involve:

  • Speaking to customers on the phone, dealing with emails, processing online orders and helping with customer payments and stock or design queries.
  • Liaising with the operations team, and handling customer enquiries about deliveries and logistics. It would suit well someone who enjoys being busy, speaking to people and building relationships.

The Sales Associate is our entry level sales position, and those who are successful at it continue to take on accounts of their own, and progress to Sales Executive level. You'll be joining a small team, so you'll get early responsibility and the work you do will immediately make a difference. Our office and warehouse work side by side, so you’ll be sharing a dynamic, busy site with the rest of the team.

Midsummer has a friendly and dynamic office environment with an emphasis on teamwork, and a shared environmental ethos across the company as a whole. The company provides free veg bags, a cycle to work scheme and a great selection of social activities and sports groups.

The role is based in our offices in Milton, on the outskirts of Cambridge, or Glasgow.

Who we’re looking for

We'll be looking for candidates who have a demonstrable interest in sustainability and renewable energy, and a desire to make a career for themselves in a sustainable sector. Some experience of sales activities, or building relationships would be an advantage, but a winning way with customers and a willingness to learn also go a long way.

The ability to quickly grasp technical information and explain it clearly would be desirable, as would a decisive and efficient nature. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team, but have a problem-solving and self-led approach during busy periods. Establishing and building relationships is a key part of the role, along with attention to detail and a friendly manner.

The heat pump industry is growing fast and this is a great opportunity to get involved early and grow with the market.

What it offers

You'll be joining a dynamic company in a new and fast growing speciality with loads of potential to grow. There’s a friendly and informal atmosphere, and a real buzz when things get going.

You will learn a lot on the job, and we’ll bring you up to speed as fast as possible. It's a fast-moving industry so new products, customers and technologies come along all the time - there will always be new things to learn. Our own tools are also evolving rapidly.

This is a full time role based either in our offices on the outskirts of Cambridge, or in Glasgow, with a salary of £27,000-£31,500 (Sales Associate)/£29,000 - £35,000 (Sales Executive), depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to base salary there is the potential to earn a bonus over the year and we have a policy of sharing a proportion of the profits of the company amongst long-term employees.

You won't get a company car - we'd rather encourage people to get on their bike or take public transport. But you do get a free bag of delicious, fresh, locally-grown organic veg every week.
