The role of a Trade Mark Attorney is incredibly varied. We work with clients from the creation of a brand through to its protection and enforcement. Work can include searches to check whether a trade mark is available to use, registering new trade marks, leading on oppositions to trade mark registrations, advising on infringement and other enforcement action, and advising on aspects of copyright, anti-counterfeiting, designs or licensing. This is a unique role and career path that will allow you to be a legal and commercial adviser to your clients.

The programme at a glance:

  • Duration: The traineeship lasts around three years.
  • Starting salary: £47,000
  • Exam support: You will receive support and guidance throughout the traineeship as you work towards your formal qualifications, including paid study leave, exam fees and internal training sessions.

Our Trade Mark team

Our award-winning and highly regarded Trade Mark team is made up of over 30 partners, qualified attorneys, trainees and support staff, spread across our London and Netherlands offices. Our clients range from multinational corporations to smaller businesses, across a wide variety of sectors, and each one receives our highest levels of service.

We are recruiting for a place on our 2027 training programme, where we will support, mentor and develop you into a world-class trade mark attorney working on some of the most exciting new products and ideas from across the globe. We will also support you through the formal qualifications, which you will complete with accredited providers alongside your trainee role, with guidance available throughout your three-year traineeship.

Who can apply?

  • We accept applications from individuals with any STEM degree discipline. We have found that those with law, STEM or humanities qualifications often have particular strengths in this career.
  • We welcome applications from candidates who are on track to achieve, or who have achieved, a minimum of a 2:1 at undergraduate level.
  • We welcome applications from both graduates or those looking for an exciting career change.

Our recruitment process

We want you to know what to expect at each stage of the process.

  • Application form: You will complete an online application form to help us understand your employment and work history.
  • Video interview: If your application meets the relevant requirements, we will invite you to a video interview. Video interview invites will be issued once the closing date has passed. You will have up to 7 days to complete the video interview.
  • Assessment centre: Successful candidates will be invited to an in-person assessment centre, which will be the final stage of the process.
