Junior Support Engineer

IT, Software, Systems, Hardware, Computer Science.

The Role

We have a genuinely exciting opportunity for a Junior Support Engineer to join one of the UK's fastest-growing IT defence consultancies, an IBM company. You will support Defence and National Security organisations, helping to secure the mission-critical technology that protects the UK and its international partners.

You will contribute to projects that deliver highly secure, high-performance software systems. As the first point of contact for users, you will work alongside 2nd and 3rd line engineers and be fully briefed on the work and your part in it from day one.

This role suits someone with a solid technical grounding who wants to build a career in infrastructure and support. You will get regular contact with the directors and a clear route to progress.

What You Will Do

  • Respond first to tickets, calls, emails, and monitoring alerts
  • Support users face to face onsite
  • Triage incidents and requests, and escalate to 2nd and 3rd line engineers when needed
  • Onboard and offboard internal and customer users
  • Manage user accounts, access, and permissions
  • Build, deploy, and troubleshoot end user devices (EUDs)
  • Test, build, and track physical assets, including EUDs and servers

Key Skills

  • Windows administration (Windows 10/11 client, plus basic server administration)
  • Microsoft Entra ID user, group, and device administration
  • PowerShell scripting for routine admin tasks

Desirable Skills

  • macOS support
  • Intune and Jamf administration
  • On-premises Active Directory user and group administration
  • Microsoft 365 administration
  • Good knowledge of hardware, including desktops, laptops, and servers
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts

Training and Development

NETbuilder invests in you from day one. Before you join the client onsite in Farnborough, you will complete a full-time onboarding and virtual technical training programme, built on your existing technical skills, knowledge, and hands-on commercial experience.

After that, you will have ongoing support for your development, with time and budget set aside for further training and certifications as your role grows.

Security Clearance

Because of the secure nature of the role and the working environment, you must hold or be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
