Placements take place in many areas of the organisation, some with specialisation that require a dedicated placement engineer. Once such area is the Thermofluids group, which focus on ICE performance. Within the Thermofluids group, the Performance Development team require placement engineers.
The placement will work as a Performance Development Engineer, who is responsible for generating and developing Power Unit performance ideas that lead to an on-circuit performance improvement. These performance improvements can come from many areas of development, such as increased power unit output, reduced heat rejection, improved driveability and better use of fuel/electrical energy budget.
As well as the creation of new ideas, the Performance Development Engineer is responsible for planning and running test programmes both in Single Cylinder and V6 dynos, analysing results and reporting learning and conclusions to the business.
In order to deliver top class results in a tight timeframe, the Performance Development engineer interacts with a number of departments such as Simulation, Product Engineering, Test, Engine Build, Programme Management, making teamwork a key factor in the role.
The placement within the Thermofluids group will last for 12 months. Subject to candidate aptitude & task availability, there may be the possibility to rotate within the Thermofluids team, moving to work alongside the simulation department. This opportunity to rotate will be reviewed during the placement.
