Materials Engineer

Why Meggitt?

I am a Materials Engineer passionate for manufacturing mainly in aerospace. I enjoy learning new things and taking up challenging tasks. Hence, the prospect of four different rotations in the Parker Meggitt Graduate Program was highly appealing to me. Moreover, the organisation’s focus on People, Planet and Technology for a sustainable future aligns with my ideology. Fortunately, I have gotten ample opportunities to contribute towards this cause through all my roles during the programme.

What’s the best thing about the programme?

Apart from the four placements, Parker Meggitt promotes professional and personal development of the graduates. Personally, I am working towards gaining an engineering chartership, CEng, with Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on a Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) supported by Parker Meggitt. As I am working in a francophone region currently, the company supports necessary language training as well. I also appreciate that the graduate programme is tailored to individual aspirations and development needs. There is huge support from the business mentors, the line managers and the network of graduates throughout the programme.

My placements

I started as a Materials Engineer in Applied Research and Technology (AR&T) team at Meggitt’s Polymer Seals Division in Loughborough, UK. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience of polymer technology. I also supported Strategic Purchasing team in validation of alternative materials. Then, I moved to Coventry for my next placement with Demand Planning team. This was a non-technical assignment to improve the efficiency of subcontract processes for both the product groups at the site - Airframe and Engine Systems. This placement gave me a broader understanding of the business through valuable collaborations with Procurement, Quality and Logistics departments.

Now, I am based at Motion, Power and Sensing Division in Fribourg, Switzerland working in Quality department. I handle both customer and supplier relations to ensure compliance of our products with EU REACH regulations.

Most memorable moment to date?

I am a council member in STEM Employee Resource Group at Parker Meggitt. I enjoy both organising and volunteering in events promoting STEM careers among youth. It was a proud moment to visit my home university, the University of Sheffield, to represent Parker Meggitt at their Careers Fair. I hope my journey inspired students of all genders and cultures to believe in themselves and follow their dreams.
